Naples to Positano? Best way to get there?

We are landing in Rome and taking the train to Naples but I need to know the best way to get from Naples to Positano. Our hotel offers a private car for $125 but I am hoping that someone may have a more economical idea.

Thanks!

If you do a search, there are many posts answering this with specific details.

From Naples, take the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento (last stop, takes 1.5 hrs). Then hop on the bus from Sorrento to Positano. These are the blue SITA buses. Positano is ~ 45 mins away. I'd still do a search for more info.

The post above is right, catch the train from Naples - it took us an hour, then a bus from outside the train station to Positano. If you don't have too much luggage you'll be fine. Cost was about 5 euro for the train and 1 euro for the bus. You could always catch a taxi from outside the Naples train station to Positano, that would be cheaper I think than the private car rate you have been quoted. We were approached by a few men in Naples train station, offering to drive us to Sorrento which we declined, I think an official taxi from the taxi rank would be better.
Kay

A faster alternative is to take a taxi from the Naples train station to the hydrofoil dock, and a hydrofoil direct to Positano (Summer only) in 45 mins. You need to enquire about the hydrofoil schedule and whether it leaves from Mergellina or Molo Beverello. Otherwise, the Circumvesuviana Train/SITA bus information above is correct.
