naples to Positano

Does anyone have advice as to how to travel from Naples to Positano. We will be travelin over the weekend (on a Saturday).

Steve_James Jun 12th, 2007 12:32 AM

Hi Janice - Are you starting from Naples?

If yes, your quickest option will be hydrofoil from Molo Beverello.

There are DIRECT departures at 09.45 and 12.20

Journey time: 1 hr - Fare: € 9

http://www.metrodelmare.com

Alternatively you can travel by train (- Circumvesuviana) to Sorrento - then bus to Positano.
But this takes much longer.

If you are travelling from Naples airport (Capodichino), a convenient option is Airport Shuttle bus direct to Sorrento (- operator: Curreri) - then bus to Positano.

Deps at: 09.00 - 11.30 - 13.00 - 14.30 - 16.30 - 19.30

Hope this helps ...

Steve

P.S. If you are travelling from Rome there are other options ...

I am also planning a trip from Rome to Positano. Please elaborate on the other ways to get there. I assumed we would need to take a train out of Rome to Naples.

Does anyone have a name of private drivers that they can recommend that may pick us up from the train station in Naples?

We are traveling in mid-May 2008.

Thanks.

A couple of years ago we used the following, wonderful driver, based on recommendations on this site:
Renato Cuomo
mobile (0039)3391612081
office (0039) 0818023037
www.comonet.it
He took us from our hotel in Positano to the Naples airport in a very new, clean comfortable mini van and he is a very safe and good driver. At the time, the fare for 4 was 80 euro.

Also consider Francesco. http://www.francescomarrapese.com/

I will be travelling to Positano from Rome in early October. Since this is considered "low season", I am not sure if there is a ferry option from Naples. Does anyone know what the best option is this time of year to get to Positano from Rome?

lms2 Jul 31st, 2007 02:15 PM

In 2004, my husband and I took the high-speed train from Florence to Naples and had a taxi meet us at the train station. It was wonderful and I highly recommend doing this. Getting on a local train and/or bus and then walking with luggage to the hotel is not my idea of a vacation. I'm sorry I can't remember the company we used but our driver was terrific. The drive is spectacular and he was very informative.

We rented a car in Naples and drove to Positano and then all around the Amalfi coast-it was great and gave us lots of flexibility. We then drove up to Pompeii and on from there to Tuscano.

Hi Heidi - There is no direct ferry service from Naples - only a hydrofoil service.

The ferry service is from SALERNO - and this is still an option in October (- weather permitting). For details:

http://www.salernocity.com/comune/tr.../costiera2.asp

Alternatively from NAPLES you can reach Positano by limo, hydrofoil or public transport:

- LIMO:

For a limo transfer (- € 100 approx) the following have all been recommended here:

www.positanocarservice.com
www.flaviogioia.com
www.limocarservice.net
www.benvenutolimos.com

www.francescomarrapese.com
www.cuomonet.it
www.tourofitaly.com

- HYDROFOIL (- high season only):

Timetables are on:
www.metrodelmare.com

- PUBLIC TRANSPORT from Naples:

- take the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento (- journey time 1 hr., deps. every 30 mins), then

- Sita bus (- 45 mins) Sorrento- Positano. Timetables on:

http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campan...COCOSTIERA.pdf

Another possibilty from Rome is the Rome-Positano bus service (- operator: Marozzi) - which may possibly still be running in early October.
Fare: € 20. Journey time: 4hrs 30' approx
Dep 07.00 from Rome Tiburtina station.

Hope this helps ...

We used Tour Of Italy -- service was excellent. We were met at the airport--even though flights were delayed several hours. We left Sorrento for Naples very early in the morning. I highly recommend them.

We went a bit out of the way, but it was worth avoiding the Circumvesuviana. We took a fast train from Rome to Salerno and then hopped a boat to Positano. Like I said, it took just a bit longer, but was well worth it (and a lot more fun!). Full details are in my Italy trip report from 2005... Good luck!

How would I get from the train station (Napoli Centrale) to the docks where the hydrofoil depart (Napoli Beverello)?

ira Aug 23rd, 2007 04:44 AM

Hi M,

>How would I get from the train station (Napoli Centrale) to the docks where the hydrofoil depart (Napoli Beverello)?<

The no. 1 tram will take you to Piazza Municipio. From there it is about a 10 min walk (or less).

As Ira says take the tram to Piazza Municipo and Molo Beverello is a 3 minute walk

I took a taxi down to the dock and it was quite interesting. the boat ride was nice to Sorrento and relaxing....it was interesting to imagine what it must have been like 79 AD.Then we took the little shuttle up Sorrento to the bus station and took the cool bus ride(what fun)down to Positano..I think this is more interesting than the train.

I used Giovanni with Tour of Italy for family of four. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
