Naples to Positano
My mother and I are flying into Rome and spending the first five days in Positano. We've been advised to take the Eurail to Naples then to take a local train to Sorrento then a bus to Positano. Does this sound like the quickest most efficient way to get there?

So are you landing in Rome and then trying to get to Positano? That will be very long-winded and exhausting doing it the public transportation route.
Can you afford a car service from FCO through to Positano? It will be very expensive - around 500 euro but will present zero issues.
Otherwise you'll need a transfer to Roma Termini via taxi or the Leonardo Express train (14 euro for the train, 48 euro for the taxi), then train to Naples, then I would get a car service to take you the rest of the way for 120 euro.
If you simply must take public transportation, take the train from Rome to Salerno and then the ferry - providing you can get to Salerno before 2pm - after that time there are no Amalfi Coast ferries running.

Depending on the time of year you are traveling, you may be able to catch a ferry from Salerno to Positano after 2 pm.
But if your flight/train times don't work, it is much more efficient for you to train to Naples then have a pre-arranged driver take you to Positano.
The private drive I always use to get me from Naples airport to Positano charges a flat fee of 100 euro - which is 50 euro each split between the two of you. Worth every penny,

Once again thank you all for the quick responses! This is such a great forum for travel! I think that I'll try the train to Naples then the pre arranged driver to Positano. ekc do you have the contact information for the driver that you use? That would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
