naples to Capri by boat-reservations?
We will be in Naples in July and plan to go to Capri for 2 nights. Do we need reservations ahead of time or just go down to the Port (what port)? Is there a webite for information or reservations?
Thanks. |
Just go to Molo Beverello and get the next aliscafo (jet boat) to Capri. Go to this website for all the information. http://www.capri.net/salsa/lang/en/p...ting_here.html
If you're leaving from the center of Naples, make sure the taxi driver takes you to Molo Beverello. They may try to take you to Mergelina because it's farther away and they will get more money for the trip. Molo Beverello has many more boats leaving from it. |
I should have explained.....the aliscafo run quite often. They are used to shuttle people back and forth to Capri, Ischia, Sorrento and Procida. People commute on them, etc. You aren't able to make reservations. Just buy a ticket and get on. There are a couple of different companies at the ticket booth. Just see who has the next boat leaving. Don't worry about it. It's like taking a bus but it's on the water.

Thank you
We will have luggage. Will that be a problem? |
From Molo Beverello, there are car ferries run by Caremar (taking about 1 hour 20 mins) and fast craft (catamarans, monohulls and hydrofoils) run by NLG, SNAV, and Neapolis (taking about 40 mins). There's a row of ticket offices, so just look to see who has the next trip and buy a ticket. Morning sailings are usually busy with day trippers, especially at weekends, but afternoon sailings are much quieter.

Luggage will not be a problem, but you will have to pay for the luggage, a few Euro per bag. Once you get to Capri, there is a porter who will have the luggage delivered to your hotel -- for a bigger fee. Often you won't have to pay for the latter service at the time -- it will be tacked onto your hotel bill, but must be paid for separately, in cash. If you're going to a hotel at the top of the hill, the LAST thing you want to do is save money and drag the luggage up to the top. In July, it will be so hot, even having a small backpack to carry around during the day can be a sweaty ordeal, especially after packing yourself into the funicular to the top.
