naples to amalfi
I have looked at train to sorrento then bus to Amalfi but as train goes inland was wondering if there is a bus that travels down the coast road to Sorrento (rather than on A3) or even all the way to Amalfi.
Also if we arrive Naples by train is the hydrofoil to Amalfi within easy distance. |
The train you might be looking at is the regular train between Naples and Salerno. There is a commuter type train, the Circumvesuviana, that goes from Naples to Sorrento. If you arrive by train at Naples Centrale station, you could walk to the Molo Beverello hydrofoil port but I wouldn't do it with luggage. Take a taxi.

You can take the train Naples to Sorrento (runs every 20min or so 3.5e) then catch the Sita bus (runs ever 15 min or so) and go down the coast. Or you can go to Salerno and hit Pasteum double back to Salerno and take ferry around to Amalfi.
Or you can take the #1 bus from the terminal to the dock area and there get a ferry to Sorrento, Postiano or Amalfi. Or if you have luggage take a taxi its not that far will run between 10-12e. |
Hi S,
I suggest taking the train to Salerno and then the ferry to Amalfi. ((I)) |
I am trying to figure out how to get to Sorrento or Postiano (not sure where staying yet as well). However, I will be coming into Naples via plane.
All of the suggestions seem like good viable options. I am curious why the suggestion to take the train to Solerno and then Ferry to Amalfi? Thanks Ann |
Ann-this thread should answer your question. Don't know if the schedules are outdated now, though.

Hi Ann,
>I will be coming into Naples via plane. There is bus service from NAP to Sorrento. www.curreriviaggi.it/ >...why the suggestion to take the train to Salerno and then Ferry to Amalfi? Because the ferry ride is quite pretty. The ferry dock is about 3 blks from the train station. ((I)) |
