Naples-Rome--book train in advance?

I asked on another thread about the Eurostar from London/Paris and the cost does go up quite a bit if you buy the ticket day of.

How about from Naples to Rome? I have my ticket heading down to Naples, but would rather play it by ear once I'm there. If I just show up at the station, should I be able to get on a train, and will the cost be considerably more than if I book it now? (I also qualify for a youth fare)

thanks!

Savings would be minimal on this route if you could navigate the fickle trenitalia web site and actually could book. Normal fares are very cheap anyway and are the same online or at the station and with two trains an hour on this route you will have no problem booking when you know when you want to go.

Fantastic, thank you!

MissZiegfeld -
last week we went from Rome to Naples and returned 7 days later. We purchased 2 for 1 tickets prior to travel online for 39 euros total. Like you, I didn't want to commit to a specific time til I was there. We purchased return tickets in Naples which cost 66 euros...hope this helps!

66 euros for two people right - 33 euros in 2nd class per person seems about right, including the mandatory seat reservation.
