Needing to get between Naples and Palermo, and prefer to avoid the plane or the train? Read this article about the daily overnight car ferry:

We are 3 female friends traveling by ferry from Napoli to Palermo. This is our first time traveling an overnight ferry and we would like to book a cabin, but there are only quadruple cabins. We are trying to figure out if we book a quadruple cabin we can end up with a stranger on our cabin…

Since there are three adults travelling together, it's necessary to book a quad cabin on Tirrenia or SNAV lines. To assure exclusivity, you would need to purchase a fourth bunk in the cabin by paying a small supplement. Otherwise, the operator has the right to assign a fourth person to occupy the fourth bunk. The likelihood of there being a fourth person assigned to your cabin will depend on the season of travel: the odds being much greater, for example, in May, June or July than in February (when there usually are far fewer passengers).

Thanks for the info. According to GAC, we have to pay a supplement for "the fictitious" fourth mentioned by Michael.
We are traveling late June, so... big chance to have someone assigned to our cabin.
