Naples or Sorrento?
We are spending 4 days seeing Pompei, Paestum, and what ever else we can squeeze in before joining our biking trip around Sicily.
Where would you stay to be centrally located, and what is a must to see. We want to be near public transportation. Hotel suggestions welcome |
Well - I think Sorrento is about 10 times more pleasant than Naples. And is connected to the train that goes to Pompei and into Naples to see the archeological museum and ferries to Capri and down the coast..
And that way you can spend each evening strolling in a cute little Italian town sampling various restaurants and wandering down the harbor. |
What time of year? How/where are you joining the bike trip? What's your hotel budget?

There have been stories in the evening news (in Australia)lately about the rubbish problem in Naples. Apparently the city has run out of space to dump rubbish and are working on a plan to have it trucked to Germany. The news footage showed bags of rubbish piled high and out into the streets. Think I would choose Sorrento for that reason alone. Happy to be correct if the problem has been solved.

Sorry, meant to be say that I am happy to be 'corrected'.

Hi Z,
I like Naples, but for what you want to do, I would stay in Sorrento and visit Naples. Alternatively, you could stay 2 nights in Naples (it's easy to visit Paestum and Pompei Scavi from there) and 2 nights in Positano or Praiano. ((I)) |
