Naples, Italy La Napoli sotterranea Underground Naples

Hello! Planning our trip to Cilento and wondering if anyone has done the La Napoli sotterranea tour? If you have, is it suitable for children? I have a list of things that we are doing that day and this is the last part of the day. So if we are too tired, we may not go at all. But if it is a bad idea for kids......then I will take it off the list. Thanks!

DH and I loved it! We had seen the PBS special a few years ago, and it made me want to go. If you can find a copy of that somewhere, it would give you an idea. Some of it is lighted with electric lights, but some of the passages are very narrow and dark, so you carry candles part of the way. It was safe, but that made it seem just a tiny bit spooky and fun. It was also extremely interesting as an archeological and historic site. If your kids would not be frightened, I think most kids would absolutely love it. For kids from about five to teens, it would be just about perfect. Keep it on your list!

Do watch out - there are two separate organisations, with extremely similar names, that both offer tours which start from different places in the city.

The one you're probably thinking of, which includes the Greek theatre, is run by NapoliSotterranea.org -

See... http://www.napolisotterranea.org/

We all enjoyed it very much!

For details of both, try page 28 in the 'Qui Napoli' magazine, which the tourism people bring out every two months.... there's a PDF version available by clicking on the word "download" here....

What was the cost of the tour? Thanks for your help. Maybe we will skip the Acquiro and go for underground naples tour. We saw a show on the history channel about it. I think the name of the show was Underground Cities. It was fascinating. Carey

The price of those tours are shown.... guess where... on page 28 of that 'Qui Napoli' magazine.

We even got that TV series here in Italy, and enjoyed watching the Naples episode enormously.

If for any reason you can't get in, try the San Lorenzo complex nearby... described on page 20 of that same publication.. a fascinating historical layer cake!
