naples, italy
has anyone cruised in southern italy, if so, what cruise line please would like to cruise soutthern italy thanks

I don't know of any cruise line that would cruise just southern Italy. Most Italy cruises involve Med sea ports or Greece too. If any, Ii guess a European based cruiseline is most likely to do so. Look into MSC.

I have seen Cunard ships at the port of Naples, particularly remembering the Queen Mary because it was so huge. No doubt other lines' ships were there too but I only remember Cunard. Oh, and Royal Caribbean, which I remember because their ship had a climbing wall on the funnel !

You'll find a list of lines that call in at Naples - where over a million passengers are said to come ashore each year - here...
http://www.terminalnapoli.it/index.p...240&Itemid=208 But there's at least one they've missed... http://www.pbase.com/isolaverde/image/128036293 Don't think that even these people offer "Italy only" cruises, but if you're interested in visiting some of the smaller places here, I'd suggest these guys - who mainly steer clear of the larger harbours... http://www.windstarcruises.com/mediterranean.aspx Their elegant vessels have been pulling up at Ischia for a while... http://www.pbase.com/isolaverde/image/114031295 ... and these days they seem to come right through "from May to November" http://www.pbase.com/isolaverde/image/134534160 http://www.pbase.com/isolaverde/image/137492356 Peter |
Costa Cruise lines is Italian-owned and operated and they offer some cruises which visit mainly Italian ports -- including Napoli -- but also include one stop in Greece and one stop in Malta. However, Napoli is the only southern Italian Mediterranean port visited.
You can independently use ferries from Naples to visit the islands of Ischia, Capri, Procida, the Aeolian islands and Sicily, and from Sicily you can use ferries to reach the island of Sardegna (and Malta), and some southern Italian ports on the eastern side of Italy. But apart from a few overnight ferries, you would need to book your own land accommodations and provide your own meals. |

Not all that much Italy, but some lovely places on the list - do try to take the trip to Olympia if there's one on offer!
