Naples in a day?
We are going from Sicily to the Almafi via the overnight Ferry to Naples. Is it feasable to arrive in Naples in the AM, visit the National Museum and then catch a train to Almafi- All in one day?
|
Hi Kim,
Depends on the day you arrive and how much luggage you have. The Archaeological Museum is closed Mondays. ((I)) |
Isn't it closed on Tuesdays? I only know this because I've been building a file for our trip and most of my books and reference sources say Tuesday.
|
Yes, it's closed on Tuesdays.
http://www.marketplace.it/museo.nazionale/ You can leave luggage at Naples Station, so that shouldn't be a problem. Hope this helps ... Steve |
Oooops. Sorry.
The Museum is closed Tuesdays. ((I)) |
im pretty sure it will be a friday or saturday. i am just paronoid since it will be my first time is europe. having to deal w/ ferrys, trains, buses and museums all in one day is alot. i was planning on stashing my luggage at the train station tho. good point!

Hi kim,
After you have stashed your luggage at the Naples Centrale station, look for a tobacco shop and buy your metro tickets. Go downstairs to the metro and take the train to Piazza Cavour. You will see signs directing you to the Museum. |
Thank you!
Tabacco shop- as in cigars? Also, do you know if the ferry lets off near the train station? |
The ferry dock is a 10 minute tram (- or taxi) ride from Napoli Centrale Station.
You can get metro tickets at the metro station ticket office, downstairs from the luggage store. Hope this helps ... Steve |
Does anyone know when the last train leaves from Naples to Almafi?
And- Can the Museum in Naples be completed in one day? |
There are no trains to Amalfi, just buses and boats. I've never gone there from Naples, only from Rome (train to Salerno then bus) or Ravello (taxi) but put out a call for GAC - he is an expert on the best way of getting from A to B via public transport in Italy.

Hi Kim,
From Naples you take the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento and then the SITA bus to Amalfi. You shouldn't try do do both Naples and the Amalfi Coast on the same day. You can see the Archaeological Museum in Naples in a few hours. You might find the Naples part of my trip report helpful. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34451044 ((I)) |
ira + caloline thankyou-
i am actually going from sicily to naples (via ferry?). want to visit the museum and head to almafi to stay for a few days. i was trying to avoid a hotel stay in naples and just see the "quick" part of naples. you just never know how big museum are. i once went to the MET and never made it upstairs in a day. :) |
