Naples - How bad is it?
 

Crime ridden and dirty? Contemplating a hotel on the port of Baia. Is this area o.k./safe?

Hi, oxburger! When I visited Naples some years ago, it was on my THIRD trip to Italy. I also stayed at a hotel on the Via Partenope.

The only good part of my stay was the fact that I could easily visit Pompeii from Naples. Other than that, I would not have gone there, nor would I ever return.

I found the city dirty and run-down looking, with many petty thieves and dishonest merchants and waiters galore. Most restaurants that I went to were simply clip-joints.

There are so many other cities in Italy that are actually nice to visit. Why not consider one of them instead?

We found it intense in a not-good way. I have a friend who relishes the intensity.

I would not go back voluntarily.

Naples is somewhat grimy. Very chaotic and wonderfully Italian.
