Naples Hotel choice
Our budget is for 100 euro pn, or less. We have offers from these two hotels:
Hotel Piazza Bellini and Hotel Correra We would love any feedback. |
Topping for myself. Still hoping to hear something on these other well placed budget options. Thanks.

We stayed at the Suite Esedra for one night (only night in Naples) in 2001. Their website now quotes E90 for a superior double. Nice hotel near the train station. I liked it because it was an easy walk to the archaeological museum and., Da Michele for pizza, and it gave us a sense of urban Naples vs. the tourist strip around the harbor.

Joe18: thank you.
What can you tell me about the area around the Naples central train station? So many Italian cities have areas around the train stations that aren't the nicest, but I don't know much about Naples. |
The area around Napoli Centrale is about the worst of any Italian city.
Have you looked at the reviews at TripAdvisor? I think Piazza Bellini is ranked No. 1 in Naples. |
Zerlina, yes, I have checked tripadvisor.com. That is where I got the Piazza Bellini.
So I guess I will go with that. I had posted this 5 days ago, and the only personal rec I got was Joe18's for the place near the station. I did a search here, but due to the quirky search function, most of what I came up with had to do with trips to Sorrento/Pompeii/Amalfi Coast towns. I keep answering myself to keep this near the tip. But I am grateful for your information about the station area in Naples. That's not for me. |
Hi T,
We stayed across the street from the Bellini, in a hotel that is no longer there, a few years ago. The location is very good. The rate is very good. The Pizza Bellini, at the bottom of the piazza, is well worthwhile. Also, there are Roman ruins. The Suite Esedra neighborhood was a little gritty but not dangerous. I felt that we were in a part of the city where the people lived and where you could get fantastic pizza. The evening passagiatta was especially impressive. But having lived in Philadelphia for 12 years, I like areas that are full of people, seem authentically local, and have a bit of grit. I realize that it's not everybody's taste.

Hi Ira
We reserved the Piazza Bellini today. I will read your report; thanks. Joe: I live in the city too, and I can take grit, but I am always wary of the areas around main train stations in Italy's larger cities. I understand that the Piazza Bellini area is not a luxurious part of town, but older and historic, with real life going on. Is this true, Ira? |
Yes, that is true, although I am most certainly not Ira!

Hi T,
>I understand that the Piazza Bellini area is not a luxurious part of town, but older and historic, with real life going on. Is this true, Ira? Yes. It is on the Western edge of Spacannapoli. I urge you to visit the Capella Sansevero while you are in Naples. ((I)) |
Both are quite good locations with Piazza Bellini being slightly better IMO - it's nearer to the heart of the historic centre & the ferry/hydrofoil dock.
We spent a week in Naples in 2006 and I spent a long time researching exactly where to stay. I wanted to be on the edge of the historic centre so we could just stroll around in the evenings & walk to most sights, and convenient for the opera house and the port - but not in a dangerous area, of course. (The area round the main railway station, at the east end of the centre, is the dangerous area) I bought a large scale street map before I decided. We stayed in the Hotel Executive and I was pleased with the location on the south-west edge of the historic centre, a 10 min walk from the dock & the opera house & just round the corner from where nearly all the buses - including the airport bus - stop. It was fine but not as nice as your 2 choices look. I looked at Correra 241 back then but it was full. I hadn't heard about Hotel Piazza Bellini then but I've seen vg reviews of it since. Looking at the latter's website now though, it doesn't seem to mention air conditioning ?
