Naples for one night 12 pm to 3pm the next day-help

My husband and I are making a side trip to Naples from Rome for one night. We will be there from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm the next day.
Should we stay in Naples and see Naples since it is a short amount of time or try to see Pompeii or Mt. Vesuvius?

Idk if it's worth it to try to see Pompeii if we are on that limited time or just enjoy Naples.
Thanks

I think that really depends on you - what do you want to do with your time. Pompeii is amazing, but then you wouldnt have alot of time to see Naples - and most of the artifacts from Pompeii are in a museum in Naples. Pompeii is the archelogical area but nothing remains but the remains of the buildings etc.

Only you can decide what is worth your time!

Don't bother. Naples is like a fine wine. You have to drink it slowly to savor its' taste. You can't hurry it.

Hi RC,

I'd stay in Naples.

You can see Mt Vesuvius from the waterfront.

You don't say when this trip is, and my comments would be very different if you're going in summer.

But generally speaking, if it were my trip, I'd stay in Naples. Pompeii is one of the most interesting things/places I've seen anywhere, so I wouldn't miss it. After arrival and hotel check-in, I'd see a few specific things or wander a neighborhood or two. The next morning, I'd check out of the hotel but leave the luggage for pick-up later. I'd be at Pompeii when the gates open and spend a few hours seeing the parts that interest me most. Then I'd return to Naples and spend an hour or two at the archeology museum before heading back to the hotel to retrieve the luggage.

If archeology, 2000-year-old urban planning concepts and ancient artifacts hold less appeal to you, then spend your time exploring Naples. You won't see the city in depth, but you'd begin to appreciate how unique and dynamic Naples is.
