Naples & Capri in March

My friends and I are going on a tour of Italy in March. We are arriving a couple of days ahead and are planning to take a train to Naples. We are planning to take a boat to Capri and we would love to see the Blue Grotto. I understand that it will be cold and I didn't know if the water would be too choppy. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Help with what?

FYI the ferries from Naples to Capri are cancelled when the seas are rough. It's possible you could train to Naples and not be able to get to Capri. Assuming the ferries are running, the schedule is reduced for the winter season, and your time on the island would be limited (unless of course you were planning to stay there overnight). If the skies are dark/gray, there wouldn't be anything to see in the Blue Grotto. Without bright sunlight, there's nothing to illuminate the cave.

Oops, sorry about that! I didn't know if someone might have gone during the month of March to Capri (specifically) and was able to see the Grotto. Maybe we should plan on staying in Naples that day since we don't know what the weather will be.

The entrance to the Grotto in very low - and if the seas are anything but perfectly flat you can't get in without swimming under water.

We went in the end of May - bright sunlight and perfectly calm seas - and had to lay down on top of each other in the bottom of the rowboat to fit through the opening. Someone sitting up would likely have a concussion.

We went to the Amalfi Coast in March. The weather was beautiful, sunny and quite warm during the day but cooler at night. We did the day trip to Capri but didn't take the trip to the Blue Grotto when we first got off the ferry because so many other people were heading for the boats - so the boats were definitely running. I had some bad information about picking up the boats at the Grotto end of the island but they don't do that in March so we missed out on the trip. We had a very enjoyable day anyway but if you do go, just join the line with the other tourists since the trips to the Grotto are more limited then.

I've been to Capri and the Grotto the end of March before. We had good weather (sunny, 60's-70's) and no problem getting ferries/hydrofoils from Naples or Sorrento.
