Naples - 6:40 a.m. flight - hotel for previous night?

We'll be on the Amalfi Coast (Minori), so a 6:40 a.m. flight out of Naples could be difficult. Any suggestions for a hotel nearer to the airport?

We had a similar issue in January. We stayed at Plaza Napoli Hotel http://www.hotelplazanapoli.it/ . It was easy to get to from the station in Naples, and the hotel ordered an early taxi for us to the airport. We paid the hotel for the taxi so there was no issue with perhaps being ripped off by the taxi. I cannot remember how long it took us, but it was quite quck.

The airport is very close to the city; if you really want to save a few minutes, you could stay in a hotel in the Vomero district as our taxis have always taken that route from the center city to the airport. As far as I know, there are no appealing airport hotels and really no reason to be that close since the taxi ride is only about 20 minutes or so and costs about 25 euro or so including baggage supplement..

$100+ if necessary, but at least a decent 3star. We will also have a rental car; should we return that to the airport the night before then taxi to/from airport? I've heard that driving in Naples is next to impossible. We'll have a GPS, so could drive ourselves to hotel, then airport early am. Thanks for replies; this part of our trip does concern me. I'll check out PlazaNapoli.

Four stars--95 euro double. Looks like an easy drive to the airport; good reviews:

Will you be able to return a rental car at 4am? Are you returning it right at the airport?

Ha! Good point!

If it were me, I would return the car the day before and take a taxi, but then I would be squeamish about driving within Naples.

OMG - the driving in Naples was the absolute worst that I've seen anywhere in Italy, including Sicily. It was a real white-knuckler just taking a taxi. But the running commentary by the driver was a hoot!

It seems as though the wiser choice is to return the car the day before our early flight; taxi to and from one of the hotels suggested. The PlazaNapoli appears to be closer to the airport than the Ranch Palace Hotel, which looks like a lovely place. Thanks for replies.

The Plaza Napoli is in the center of town..the Ranch Palace is off the highway to the airport.

Thanks to bilboburgler's recommendation, we stayed at the Hotel "Charming". It was within walking distance to both the car rental return and the airport itself (so no taxi fares). If we hadn't had a 6:00 a.m. flight we might have looked into one of the other recommendations and been able to see a little of Naples. The hotel was plain, but clean, and fine for our needs as we got to the airport in time. There is a small bar area which had a self-serve area for yogurt, juice, and coffee for brkfst. so we were able to have something in our room before leaving for our walk to the airport.
