Naples
 

My husband and I and another couple will be taking the train from Rome to Naples in July. We are staying on Capri, but would like to see Naples before continuing to Capri. Is it a good idea to store our luggage at the central train station in Naples? If not, what's a better alternative?

I believe there is a left-luggage service at the Molo Beverello which is the main departure point for Capri, but I don't know the opening hours. If you're arriving at Napoli Centrale station, it would be best to leave things there as the left luggage is reliable and is open all day.

I do this a lot and agree with Ira. Problem is the train end of Naples is much, much less interesting than the ferry port end (which may not offer storage). Consider going or coming via Sorrento and Pompeii, which has free luggage storage near the museum turnstiles.

Agree with the advice above. Naples is very interesting in its own right and is often overlooked. Visit the old town
much more interesting than the port area. watch your wallet in the Piaza Garabaldi just outside the station.

Just to clarify, the area around train station is very crummy and is hard to get around. Some like the narrow street area a bit further on, but I think it's highly overrated and many others even hate it. The part of town near (not immediately adjacent, but near) the port is quite interesting and has a bunch of museums.

But due to logistics and immediately near outstanding other attractions, you may want to visit Pompeii or even Caserta on your way. The palace at Caserta near Naples hardly registers on tourist radar, but it was built to outclass Versailles and kind of succeeds.
