Nancy, Are You Back?
Have you returned from Italy yet? We're dying to know how the trip went. Realize you're busy right now and don't expect a full trip report, but sure would like to know if all your plans came out OK.

Hi guys!
Even though I did not miss my computer or the forum, I thought of all you frequently.
Got back last night 7pm EST, Rome time 1 Am.
Yes, Art,
My husband's plans are still the same, and he will be telling the children he is moving out , tomorrow on our 16th anniversary.
I LOVED ITALY!!
Loved Rome, loved Formia.
Made some language boo-boos, have hotel suggestions, and even drove La Macchina Famosa, back into rome
(now that is a story!)
I will probably not be getting a "report" put together for a few days, but
I am here,
I had a GREAT trip,
I am surviving,
And I will be fine.
Please all think of my children though tomorrow around 8-9 am.
Regardless of how we all turn out, it will be a BIG shock to them, esp. after the great time we all had for the week husband was with us in Italy.
thanks guys.
A piu tarde.

Nancy, I am glad you are back, but also sad too! I hate the ends of vacations.. seems so long to the next one!! you want them to go on forever.

I hope everything is well your way, I will think of you tomorrow,...

did you get your ring?

Beth
|
Nancy: Glad you came back with great memories for you and the kids. I've been wondering if you made it into and out of Naples without any problems to pick up your friend! AND if you got the ring or another momento.

My thoughts are with you....
|
hope things work out alright for you. Iwent through a separation a year ago (I have 2 kids) It wasn't easy but looking back I'm glad it happened. I don't know your story but , as for us, we were just kidding ourselves for some time before. We are actually beginning to get along a lot better as parents now. We will never get back together but things are beginning to feel good again and I'm looking forward not back
Anyway I'll be thinking of you!!!

Yes,
I did get a ring.
I went shopping at a store on Via Veneto, and when I asked for a ring, I explained to the owner/ woman, why I did not want a specific type of rings, and reason for purchasing one.
She was very sweet, I ended up with a bracelet that visit.
But, upon return to rome with bestfriend, Ellen, we went back , (with my daughter) and I ended up with a ring.

Ring is in rose gold, which I love (matches color with new bracelet)
The woman was so kind to me, giving me hugs and kisses when we left.
We spoke mostly in italian because pmy daughter was there.
My daughter really fell for a charm bracelet, which the woman ended up giving to me as a gift !!
I will start wearing my ring tomorrow.

I loved driving in Italy, once I got over my shock.
No rules! loved it!
The key for me, was when the slightest bit in doubt, stop for directions.

Thanks again,
later.

Now where is Patti Suttle and her party of 10? Did you see her at the airport?
|
Curious,
no I did not, but I did pick up a Torre di Pisa for her!
I expect we will hear from her soon.
If i remember correctly, she lives on the west coast, so time-wise, may not have gotten to the computer yet.
I must say, jet-lag sure hits a bit stronger coming home, than over!
And if she feels anything like me, she will be in bed, where I am going in 2 mins!
8 hrs sleep total since Sunday night is really taking it's toll.

I'm new to the foruum. Did Nancy's husband say he was leaving her if she went on this trip?
|
To answer your question, though it feels weird to do so wheere she can read it: Said he was leaving her, but not contingent on her going on this trip. She's a nice courteous weel-liked person who had been planning her trip with lots of chatter on this board for a long time and shared this news with the board.

Nancy,

I am glad to hear the that trip when well, in spite of the circumstances. I was just wondering - after the few emails in Italian that you and I exchanged, how did you find it conversing with the natives? Did you have any problems with the pronunciation or the speed at which there spoke? I know that was my biggest problem at first. I hope that all your hard work paid off.

Looking forward to your trip report when you get around to it. First things first. Good luck tomorrow.

Russ

Kristin,
My husband of 16 yrs (today, by the way) and I had been in counceling for 2 yrs, but I thought all was going well.
I planned the trip 14 months ago, for the 4 of us.
In March, my husband told me he needed to leave this marriage.
I did not know what to do with this planned trip, so I posted a question about it here.
( I had been posting for almost a yr by then)The support I received here was a real sanity saver.
We did not tell the children til today, cause I wanted them to finish the school yr, and go to Italy first.
So, all 4 of us went to Italy, and we had a very good time.
then after 9 days, my husband returned to the States for work, and my bestfriend, and children's favorite "auntie" joined us for the last 8 days.
We had an even better time, if that is possible!
But, now reality.

Russ,
Boy, in some places I went , one would think I was trying to speak Russian!
In other places, I was understood, and my family was very grateful that I had spent so much time learning the language.
I am really glad I did because in some of the places, even in Rome, english was not universally spoken (of course!)
And I had such fun speaking.
I almost always started out with
"Scusi, non parlo bene italian, ma mi piace parlare molto, e posso practica con Lei?"
That would win me a smile.
I miss the sound of the language, and yesterday found myself, grazie-ing, and scusi-ing wherever I went.
Not typical Vermont language.
Next Monday, I start the first of 14 classes in Italian.
I found a school that is about an hour from here!
I thought of you and all the others who I had corresponded with in Italian.
and I especially thought about
your "thrown" chicken !
Thanks for the encouragement to learn.

The children have been told.
right now, son is at movies with a friend, daughter has a playmate over, and husband is moving first load of stuff to apt.
I went for an early walk with a friend of mine.
Her 46 yr old husband died 5 months ago, and we share the same anniversary date!!!
so, we started our day with each other's company.
then husband told children, and of course, lots of tears, some anger, lots of questions, etc.
But, we could truthfully say to them that we do not hate each other,
that we will not be "fighting" over them
that we both still love them
that we are going to try and make this as least painful and keep things as much the same as possible for them.

This is all VERY hard, and not the way I wanted to "unwind" from my long trip in italy.
BUT, I have lots of great memories.

I will try to get a trip report out soon.
[ At least sooner than Beth did for *her* Venice /Florence trip :-) ]
I drove in Rome, made some language boo-boos, have train suggestions, and a few lovely/ funny stories .
This is a breath in- breath out situation.
thanks guys.
