Nahe wine region hotel before Frankfurt airport departure
Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice hotel for our last evening in Germany before flying out of Frankfurt (around 11 am)? We'll have a car (which we'll have to drop off at the Frankfurt airport), and don't mind an early start - but we'd like some recommendations for a hotel in an area that is close to Frankfurt but has more character. We'll be doing a wine tour, so perhaps something in the Nahe region would suit. Price isn't a big issue, but preferably something in the 3* range (e.g. 85-125 euros for a double room).

As I think I've posted previously, I've spent a fair chunk of time in FRA, and have a great deal of affection for this city. I have a great little hotel for you in downtown FRA, ideally situated next to the Romer (the collection of buildings in a cobblestone plaza that date back to medieval times), right next to the Romer is the "mainkai" the pedestrian walkway running along the Main River-it's very romantic to take a walk along here at night-and if you're going in the next month, you've absolutely picked the ideal time to be in the city- the trees along the walkway by the river are just beautiful. You can stop at a restaurant boat for a drink if you like. Go in the opposite direction of your hotel, and you'll hit the Zeil-the pedestrian shopping district of FRA-good shopping to be had in this area-go to the Kaufhof for lunch-they have an EXCELLENT restaurant on the top floor where you can look out over the shopping area. That hotel would be the Hotel Miramar Frankfurt, on Berliner Strasse. It's a 4 star, doubles run about 120E's in June. Check it out on tripadvisor.com (as always). I don't think you'll be disappointed at all!

I would recommend Aschaffenburg, a mid sized city about 30 miles east of the Frankfurt airport. I used to live there.
The Hotel Aschaffenburg Hof is nice, has inside parking, serves a good breakfast, and is within your budget. Just up the street (south) one block at Weissenburger Strasse is a very pleasant beer cafe. It has outdoor tables and a good menu.
Aschaffenburg is in Franken (Franconia), the NW finger of Bavaria. This is a region of dry white wines. The Sylvaner grape is typical, and the bocksbeutel bottle is characteristic. Würzburg, further east, is the heart of this wine region.
You'll pass through some of the vineyards if you drive through the hills north of the city toward Hörstein. In Hörstein I recommend the restaurant Käfernberg for excellent food, service, and ambience.
If you have time visit Miltenberg, a village of half-timbered houses 20 miles south of Aschaffenburg on the Main River.
