Mykonos to Naxos

Travelling end August beginning September what are all the ferry operators between these two islands? Thanks

Check here to see what's offered by plugging in your travel dates. It might be necessary to first go from Mykonos to Paros to connect to Naxos. http://www.gtp.gr

Hi

Try www.gtp.gr or www.ferries.gr. See also http://www.greeceathensaegeaninfo.co...erry-chart.htm

A number of websites indicate a Saturday sailing from Mykonos to Naxos via Paros by Nel Lines. But on their website - http://www.nel.gr/index.asp?a_id=95&land_id=2 - there is no mention of sailings from Mykonos.

Has this service been cancelled?

"...what are all the ferry operators between these two islands?" There are none, except during high season. Mykonos and Naxos are on different ferry routes.

Until Sep 6th you can get from Mykonos to Naxos by FlyingCat 3, which leaves Mykonos at 0845 and arrives on Naxos at 0930. After that, unless FC3 extends it's season, you will have to go to Paros by SeaJet 2 or FlyingCat 4, then transfer to a ferry from Paros to Naxos. :-)

Okay, I see what you mean. NEL's Aqua Jewel is scheduled to depart Syros, then stop at Paros and Naxos on it's odyssey around the Aegean. <i>But it doesn't show Mykonos as one of the departure ports on it's drop-down menu!</i> lol! Well, if you really want that ferry, suggest you book through one of the other websites, or better yet, just wait until you get to Mykonos and buy your ticket directly from an agent.

My preferred options would be: 1) FlyingCat 3 at 0845; 2) SeaJet 2 at 1000, connecting with Blue Star at 1210. :-)

Yes!

I could not understand why some aggregating sites showed it but NEL's not. Since I arrive from Milan at 10.55 at Mykonos the best boat would be the Nel Lines Aeolos Kenteris II at 13.15.

Is there sufficient time to get to the harbour in time?

Are the ferry tickest now e-tickets or does one still have to go to the agent to collect a physical ticket?

Thanks Heimdall for your help - as well as all others!

We have booked ferry (ANEK) and Seajet tickets for Greece in August and with both companies, you have to exchange your printed out voucher for the tickets. They are not e-tickets. Be careful booking as a couple of the websites I looked at only had collection at places we could not get to (we do not fly through Athens which seemed to complicate things).

Someone recommended this website which I found easier to use than the others but I booked direct with the individual companies -

Hi nochblad,

It's difficult to advise you when I don't know the exact date of travel. Looking at the Mykonos - Naxos sailings for Aug on http://tinyurl.com/39kxt7u, I see that Aqua Jewel sails at 0725, but only on Sundays, and Aeolos Kenteris II sails at 1315, but only on Tuesdays. If you are arriving at 1055, then you would certainly have enough time to get to the ferry port from the airport. If you aren't travelling on a Tuesday, then of course that doesn't apply.

An alternate route would be FlyingCat 4 leaving the old port on Mykonos at 1455 and arriving on Paros at 1545. It's only a few short steps across the Paros dock from where FC4 arrives to the queue for the Naxos ferry. Your best bet from Paros to Naxos would be FlyingCat 3, on it's return run from Santorini. It departs Paros at 1825, and arrives on Naxos at 1855. There are later ferries as well - once you get to Paros, it's easy to go on from there to Naxos. :-)

Oh, for your other question, KayF gave you a good answer. When you book online all you get is a reference number - you still have to go to an agent to pick up the actual ticket.

Another "informal" way to get from Mykonos to Naxos on certain days is... to get a one-way ride on a day-excursion catamaran. There are 2 companies -- the boats are Naxos Star and H.V. Alexandros -- that come from Naxos & Paros on Tuesdays Thursdays and Sundays. They take people in the AM to Delos, then Mykonos in the afternoon. At about 4:30 or 5, each departs back to those isles, dropping Paros people first, arriving Naxos about 7 pm.

You can go down to the port when they dock at Mykonos about 1 or 1:30 pm and buy a ticket on board for the later sailing. OR -- if you want to nail it down ahead of time and will be on Mykonos for a few days, you could check it out on the previous sailing-day. One of these companies, I forget which, also on Fridays in high season, makes a round-trip to Mykonos NOT for the sightseeing excursion... but this is not listed on schedules.

NOTE: Experienced people recommend the Alexandros boat if it's windy, because it's a larger vessel thus more stable.

Heimdall Jul 18th, 2010 07:22 AM

Jan is correct. If my brochures are still current, Alexander and Naxos Star do the Delos/Mykonos excursion on Tue, Thu, & Sun. During Jul and Aug Alexander goes to Koufonissi and Iraklia on Sun rather than Delos/Mykonos, so Sundays you will have only Naxos Star. Every Friday Naxos Star does a trip to Mykonos only. Both ships leave Mykonos at 1700 all days except Friday, when Naxos Star departs at 1600.

It shouldn't make much difference which ship you choose, unless the seas are rough. Both are about the same length, but Naxos Star is a mono-hull which rolls more in the swell. Alexander is a catamaran with a wider beam.

Take into account that these two excursion boats are smaller than a regular ferry and that there is a chance that they will be sold out with daytrippers going to Delos.

Fly in to Mykonos from Milan on Saturday August 28 at 10.55. One of the party leaves Sunday September 5 from Mykonos at 15.40 and two leave September 11 at same time.

This is what I am working around.

Thanks for all the submissions.
