Mykonos small luxury hotels- Thanos?

We are considering adding a few days on Mykonos to our trip this June. We visited the island on our honeymoon in 2004, and stayed at the Mykonos Blu. The setting was lovely, but we found it too large and resort-like for our taste. We would love to return to the island and stay in a small, boutique-style luxury hotel, much like Katikies on Santorini (our favorite). Most important is a great view (preferably with sunset views), quiet (ie, not family-oriented), stylish and romantic. I've looked at websites for Apollonia Bay, Apanema and Tharroe- they all look great, but do not have many reviews on tripadvisor. Thanos- do you recommend any of these or do you recommend something else? We don't really have a beach/town preference. The hotel could be anywhere if it meets those criteria.

europhile, you have chosen very well.

The Apollonia is a beautiful little hotel located in my favorite part of this island. Wonderful views of Delos and the sea in a very quiet area with a few little stores and some homes. It is close to a small beach. Local transport into town takes about 10 minutes. Here it is known as very good hotel.

The Apanema is close to town and is known for being stylish and small, just what you are looking for. I do not think that it is as popular as Apollonia or Tharroe.

Tharroe is very, very good but on a higher area. Not so good climb in evening when taxi not available. But its views are considered fantastic. It is a luxury small hotel also close to town. I like it.

The problem we have here is few small luxury hotels and you already find best. We have many large luxuries but few small ones.

The Belvedere Hotel is exclusive and in Mykonos town. It only has 39 rooms and 6 suites with amazing views, especially sunsets over town and sea. A suite is best at this hotel, not a standard room as you guranteed views in very stylish acomodation. Here also is a famous restaurant used to be called Nobu but recently change name. Address is http://www.belvederehotel.com/

I say recently that Cavo Tagoo is a very, very nice smaller hotel. Famous for famous people. Its suites are very beautiful. Close to town also but larger hotel but not larger too much. http://www.cavotagoo.gr/

If I choose some it would be from Apollonia, Belvedere, Tharroe or Cavo Tagoo. I know I do not make it easy for you but I think they are all very, very good small style hotels.

Thanks so much for the information! You really know your island well. Is Apollonia actually on the beach, or is it inland? It's hard to tell from the photos. Do you have any idea which are the best rooms there? It sounds like Cavo Tagoo is a better choice than Tharroe. The Cavo Tagoo website is beautiful, but is the road between the hotel and the view? Do you think it's a better walk from town to Tagoo than to Tharroe? Sorry for all the questions- but you obviously know best!

Sorry- one more thing- do you know if Apollonia Bay has a website? I can't find one on google, but it seems strange that they would not have one. Thanks!

Bravo Gaspard! I spend much time looking for site for europhile. I did find one but it looks unofficial or part of portal. It is here at:

http://www.apolloniabay.com/

There is a small road in front (no traffic apart from one bus usually!) and then an open small field then the beach. At that point it is a little rocky but to left it becomes with sand.

From the hotel to the right is small church at little harbour. To the left a hill where some apartments, small shop and restaurant are. At top of the hill you turn right at Manoulas Hotel and walk down to sandy beach, and two tavernas. One on each side of road. On left is taverna used in movie Shirley Valentine, on right the taverna belongs to Manoulas Hotel. Both are at beach.

From the hotel also, it is one minute to small area close to little church where you take bus to town. Timetable is posted there but usually service runs until 2am in summer, every hour.

Agios Ioannis has what we know as Apollonia effect. From the litle harbour in front of hotel you can see a piece of light on sea on a clear summer day between where you stand and Delos. This is one of three places in world where sun is brighter than anywhere else. It is of course supposed to be connected to the birth place of Apollo and Artemis on Delos. Finally, I tell everyone who wishes to visit this area to buy oscar-movie Shirley Valentine as much was filmed at Agios Ioannis.

Best rooms? The suites. Smaller rooms facing sea and Delos are good also but I think the suites are best.

I do not think Cavo Tagoo walk is not so much as Tharroe, some complaints from peoples though as much renovation on the road. The road does not spoil view from Cavo Tagoo as it is lower.

Any questions please let me know.

Wow- thanks for all the information! It's so nice to have resident experts. I guess now we just have to decide. So many good choices! :-)
