Darn those pesky fingers hitting the wrong keys -- I meant Delos! And you're right, it was in Heimdall's first post. Is this something we'd be sorry if we missed (we're not professional archeologists), or,in your opinion (you sound like you have similar travel tastes) would we be sorry to have less time in & around Naxos?
|
Would you be sorry if you missed Delos? That's hard to say. I really enjoyed it when I went there from Mykonos several years ago. October would be a good time to visit - in the summer when it is blazing hot it can really get uncomfortable, but Oct temperatures are much more pleasant for sightseeing. The excursion boats only go on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, and not when it is too windy, so timing may not be right for you anyway.
I was thinking of going again when I was on Naxos this June, but somehow never got around to it. I was only on Naxos for four days, and there is plenty to do on Naxos itself. |
I think you will be delighted with your choice. We have enjoyed visiting Naxos over the past decade and on every return trip we keep finding new things to explore. I hope you had an opportunity to look at our pictures posted by our friend Travelerjan. If so you will see why we just keep returning time after time.
When you arrive at Glaros say hi to Alex from Bruce and Laurel. You will have a great time exploring Naxos town and the mountain villages. |
Stanbr we are just back from Naxos and Santorini. We stayed at Naxos Royal based on your recommendations and fitting the needs of our family. Everything you said was right on. It is one of the nicest on the island. The seaview rooms were not worth it and we were glad we passed on them. They really weren't seaviews. The other hotels you recommended, I ran by and checked out. I ran every morning. You were right on those as well. The one little one near Naxos Royal looked great. The Argos is right behind the Royal and it looked like a great place to be as well. The Galaxy on the other side was nice but older.
Is Glaros the one on the other side of town in the yellow buildings? I ran there. I liked the location. It seemed to have more backpackers and laundry drying outside than Naxos Royal. |
I am pleased you had a good visit to Naxos and the Naxos Royale. Although we have never stayed there ( we use less expensive hotels) we did take a tour of Naxos Royale in order to be informed if people were looking for a higher end hotel.
Thank you for your feedback. It is gratifying to hear posters experiences. Glaros is our hotel of choice. It is on St George beach. As you run the beach turn right from Naxos Royale. This is the short run so in about 300 meters you will come to the end of the beach at the promontory. Just before you hit the little stand of trees at the end of the beach you will have passed a beachfront taverna and a cluster of hotels. Glaros is directly behind the taverna about 10 meters back from the beach. There is a lovely looking yellow hotel beside Glaros. As for Backpakers and Laundry I would say most of Glaros clients would be budget travelers but most of the ones we have met there tend to be somewhat more prone to middle age like us. |
Stanbr..."the little hotel" I mentioned in my response was Glaros. My mistake I was thinking of Hotel Grotta on the other side of town.
I went inside Hotel Glaros and really loved it! There were very nice people there and lots of character. I saw people online there. Did they bring their won computers or was that available to guests? I would probably have stayed there had I not had my parents and three children with me. The pool was essential. We really liked the Pizza next to the market up the street from Glaros. Very fresh veggies etc..., good prices and nice guy who owns it. We used the intenet cafe called Matrix run by Aussies with a great book exchange on sight which was great considering how expensive books were at Zoom in English! |
Glaros has an internet room in the basement of the hotel which open onto the street so you could see people using the computers. The room is made of marble including the floor and all of the tables which are supported by mini marble columns. Talk about the past meeting the present.
We also used Matrix for our internet home fix as it was on our direct route into Naxos town for dinner each night. |
