Mykonos - hotels
My wife and I are visiting Mykonos for the first time in July. Can anyone recommend a hotel in a good area, clean and quiet, with private bathroom, under EUR100 per night
|
Eric, this is a difficult one. You will be visiting Mykonos in peak season when hotel rates are at their highest. I've had a look around some places tonight which I know in town but can only find one that fits your criteria provided you will be visiting up until 19th July. The prices increase the following day.
The hotel is called the Lefteris and can be checked out here: http://www.lefterishotel.gr/ Here's a guest house (with private bathroom) that is also within your budget or only a few euro over. http://www.andrianis.com.gr/ If you want to stay out of town let us know as there may be alternatives available that fit your needs. Eric, there is still time to find accommodation under 100 Euro per night in Mykonos.
Just go to www.booking.com and check the price range box, you will get many hotels, that meet your price criteria. All of them will be clean, with private bathroom and also quite simple, do not expect anything luxurious at that price, which is considered low for the high season in Mykonos. |
We used booking.com last year for our hotel on Mykonos and never will again.
Their rates for the hotel we chose were better than the hotel's website but, for us, it was a huge mistake using that online agency. The room we got was facing a wall, no view at all and it felt slightly damp. They had rated the hotel as 4-star. When we spoke with the manager to ask if we could change the room he told us that it was not possible. He said, after booking.com deduct their tariff he got much, much less. Therefore the room allocated was worth what they had paid him! So, best be aware of this as he indicated he wasn’t the only Mykonos hotelier who did that. |

I have used booking.com many times and never had a problem Of course before i commit my self with a booking, i also visit the website of the hotel, to see their direct rates as well. Many times booking.com had better rates than any other on line website, and that gave me the motivation to proceed with booking, something i have never regreted. Having a room that you don't like isn't necessarily a fault of the online agency, all hoteliers have non privileged rooms, that have to be given to someone if the hotel is fully booked. Also to my knowledge, and believe me i know Greek hotels very very well, booking.com is publishing the stars of the official classification of each hotel. This has nothing to do with the individual judgement of each visitor, as of if the hotel was worth the 4 stars. All bookings made through on line websites or tour operators or travel agencies, are based on commission they get from the hoteliers. This commission is between 8% and 20% usually, and a professional hotelier should protect his co operators by not selling at lower rates directly to the public...... Finally something you do not know, is that all hoteliers are entering the prices at which they wanna sell, automatically in booking.com 's system.... so if you found a higher rate, that was the hoteliers fault, as he entered these rates. Of course this doesn't mean that there aren't problems from the site of the online agency.... My personal experience was that in some cases it was better to cancel and rebook instead of talking to someone from booking.com, as i was talking to someone from India that really wasn't much helpful, as he was repeating the same stereotypical answers over and over again.... But all together, after using booking.com for several years, i am very satisfied and i would recommend also it to others. |
Thank you Clausar
We were so disappointed and that probably shows in my message. It was our fifth visit to this beautiful island but on each previous vacation we had booked directly with the hotels. Due to the rates being offered, last year was the first time we used an agency i.e. booking.com and it disappointed us so much. The hotel manager said they only use the agency to upload rooms that have not been sold therefore I did know there must have been some input from the hotel. When I showed him the print-out I had which specified exactly what we had paid for he said the online agency had got it wrong. I need to say that this was not a cheap hotel and although we made some savings with booking.com the distress it caused has stopped us from ever using it again. We did contact them but felt their service was not helpful at all. |
Appreciate your advice, everyone. Eric

Carbonaki's main hotel appears to be out of your price range but they own other accomodations nearby that are less expensive studios. |
Hi Chania
I've recommended the Carbonaki many times because it's a little gem of a hotel but was unaware they now owned less expensive studios closeby. Have you a website address or more information? This is good news because the Rochari area is so quiet but in town and alternative accommodation there is always good news. bill |
