Mykonos Hotels

Any recommendations for accomodations on Mykonos? We are looking for something moderately priced (not cheap but not outrageous) and unique. We will be travelling with another couple and would share a suite or home but sharing is not a requirement.

Thanks!

Where do wou wish to stay when on the island. Beach or town hotel?

Also, let me know your hotel budget for each night and I'll make some recommendations. Also, it helps to let me know when you will be here as rates changed depending on time of year.

Hi Thanos
Do you never recommend Hotel Elena near the amphitheatre?

Hi Gaspard

Nice to hear from you.

The Elena is a fine hotel run by good people, and I think a C class compared to the B Class Semeli. It is directly opposite Semeli and many people think it is attached to Hotel Rochari.

However, Semeli does have some sea views but I think only two upper rooms at Elena have sea views. I will look next time I walk down past.

I apoloigsie but I get asked many times for hotels with sea views in my head I have a list and use those that I know offer this.

The theatre has been busy this sumnmer and noisy, but fun too. Like all hotels in Rochari district the Elena is a perfect location for a 5 minute stroll into town.

I will check out your Ano Mera pages.

I forgot to mention. In Mykonos town there are strict controls of colours used for all wooden windows and stairs. A selection of 6 if I remember OK.

The Elena is one of the very few that hsa used light blue colour instead of usual dark blue and it is nice change.

Thanos!

Thanks for the reply. We will be on Mykonos May 21-24th, 2007. We would prefer sea views and would hopefully like to keep our rate at about 150euro/night or less. Thanks for your help!

Hi senji

I'll recommend town hotels only. Also, no Mykonos hotels will have their rates published yet for 2007. When checking, I have used hotels in your budget range for room for two people. In Mykonos the published rate is the room you pay not for each person.

Hotel Harmony - close to the port and easy walking distance to town. http://www.harmonyhotel.gr/

Hotel Tagoo - (do not confuse with Hotel Cavo Tagoo). This is situated in area of same name of hotel and is maybe about 15 minutes walk to town. Views are very, very good. http://www.hoteltagoo.gr/

Kouros Hotel - Very good views and also in Tagoo area. http://www.kouroshotelmykonos.gr/

In town hotels:-

Semeli Hotel - in Rochari district. Quiet area but sea views need to be requested at this hotel. Only few rooms at this hotel have this but is good place with good staff. Their public areas do have sea views though.

http://www.semelihotel.gr/

Rochari Hotel - in Rochari District. Great views as a little higher up small hillside than Semeli. Again, request sea view rooms. http://www.rochari.com

Theoxenia Hotel - Close to the widmills and recently renovated, A very nice stylish hotel:

Petasos Town Hotel - There are a few Petasos hotels on the island offering very good quality and this one is located in very good town position.

If you want some recommendations for beach hotels let me know.

Hello thanos

I visit your island regularly and read your postings with interest especially as i recogise many of the places you write about.

I hope senji doesn't mind me hi-jacking the thread but I'm curious about your name.

On Paros I have a friend called Thanasis. Your names sound very similar and I wondered if it is the same name but perhaps formal and informal?

thanos_GR Sep 20th, 2006 02:47 PM

hello bill

Greek names..there are many different short names to full name given to us.

My birth name is Athanassios. Your friend will also be born with the same name or Athanasios or Athanasius which is original - so many small changes to same name.

Some not so close family call me Athanas, some friends call me Thanassis and my close family call me Thanos.

It means immortal. When written in Greek it is 'not death'. I try to write it in Greek here but when I preview all I get is ?????????? so I think it will not work on Fodors.

We stayed at Hotel Tagoo this past July and it was our favorite hotel in Greece. The rooms were lovely, the views fantastic (especially from the pool and bar area), the rate was very reasonable, and the owners were incredibly friendly and helpful. Their restaurant suggestions were great. It was a very easy walk into town, but far enough out of town to be peaceful at night. The bar area at night was a great place to meet other guests and chat with the owners. We can't wait to return.

Did you enjoy Mykonos Leslie? Sometimes people don't come back here and say if it was Ok for them but, for me, it is always good to know.

Leslie28 Sep 20th, 2006 05:30 PM

Thanos, we loved Mykonos. I was a little unsure of going there with 2 children since everyone kept telling me it was a party island, but we had a great time. We went to the beautiful beaches early in the day and seemed to miss most of the crowds. It was fun seeing where Shirley Valentine was filmed, since that is one of my favorite movies. We spent the afternoons or evenings wandering Mykonos town which I just loved. The shops and the restaurants were great and it was fun and lively, but we never felt crowded. My girls loved the pelicans and the windmills. Our only disappointment was that we never got to Delos since the winds were blowing for the 3 days we were there and all the boats were cancelled. But, we definitely plan to go back. I appreciate the help you gave me in my planning and I still plan to do a trip report.

Thanos... you have been very helpful. Thank you so much! Now I have another question... it turns out we have another set of travelling companions (it was originally just 4 people). Now that we are 6, do you have any recommendations for houses?

Thanks again!

Janelle

I am very pleased you had a good time here. You now have a reason to return. Delos.

I also pleased you enjoyed Shirley Valentine area (Agios Ioannis). There are more homes there now but the sea colours are fantastic and it is a quiet place. I hope you werre lucky to perhaps see the Apollonia effect in the sea between the beach and Delos.

Here we know Delos as Little Delos and Big Delos. The smaller of the two islands has the ruins, no people and a Unesco 24 hour a day patrol boat. They have shot at people trying to access after hours so they are serious people guarding the island! The larger has some residents occasionally, and some livestock also.

Kind regards,

thanos

Do you now want perhaps villa recommendations. Not so many of this type of accommodation on the island, mostly hotels. I do know some but never stayed as a guest so cannot comment on facilties. Here are a few town places to look at:

Villa Hurmuses

http://www.mykonosvilla.com/

Villa Konstantin

http://www.villakonstantin-mykonos.gr/

Marina View

http://www.marinaview.gr/

Villa Margarita

http://www.villamargarita.gr/

If I had to choose it would be Villa Hurmuses or Villa Konstantin.

thank you Thanos for the explanation of the different styles of your(and my friends)christian name.

His daughter is called Artemis and that's a name I think is very beautiful and connected to your island, if I recall correctly.

KInd regards,

Bill

Hello!
Even though Thanos had been very helpful, i thought maybe i could also help you, by giving my personal experience. I am visiting Mykons for three years now and i always stay at "Poseidon Hotel Mykonos". It si a great hotel and has all the nesecary amenities. It also has a great suite for normal price...
For your convenience i am posting the URL from which i found the hotel. It has also many hotels in Mykonos.

I agree with what you say. For a strange reasson that sometimes I do not understand many people prefer hotels other side of windmills and in town so I guess that's why I usually recommend those. You are correct though, the Poseidon is a good 3 star hotel with many return visitors.

Here's the hotele's own site:-
