Mykonos hotel with sunset view
 

Hello - can anyone recommend a hotel in Mykonos with a sunset view? Ideally would love the hotel in a position where it enjoys the sun all day long. I know, sounds like a weird request but this is important to me! Budget not important - happy for 1 star through to 5 star suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Oh by the way, make sure you ask for a room with a balcony and a sunset view. From memory not all of them have it. ((I))

Thank you so much! They are all amazing looking hotels (Rochari looks wonderful). It never even occurred to me to look up Shirley's hotel, what a hoot! Love that movie. As for the location, I'm permanently scarred by my stay on Crete a few years ago where the sun dipped behind the mountain at 2pm. Won't make that mistake again.

The Rochari is FABULOUS.

I stayed there in May, and we had a glorious view from our (very large) balcony over all of Mykonos town and the harbor. The view doesn't face *straight* west into the sunset but I'm pretty sure you can see it from the balcony because the view is so expansive. (We were never in our room at sunset, b/c we preferred drinks in Little Venice.)

cheryllj, thank you for the tip. Can you watch the sunset from Little Venice? Have never been to Mykonos before and we only planning to be there 2 days. I don't normally micromanage like this - just want to get straight to the good stuff!

Yes, the bars in the Little Venice area face straight west into the sunset.

The drinks are pricey, but you're paying for the view. We were lucky to find a place that let us sit for two hours just nursing one cocktail each, but we were there in May, not high season, when I'm sure it's much more crowded.

Following on from what cheryllj has said, I always lodge at Hotel Rochari and the views and sunsets are part of the charm of this hotel.

Again following in cheryllj's suggestion I can recommend spending some time at the restaurants or bars in Little Venice for the sunsets. Be aware though that eating and drinking in this area is expensive.

One Little Venice bar, Kastro, plays classical music each evening as the sun sets. The views from its large window out to sea are superb.

Thank you both for some really top tips, will definitely check out Kastro. Rochari has a smaller hotel which is called Little Rochari. Did either of you see it? It looks a little higher up.

yes hnberlin, I visited Little Rochari last year but didn't lodge there.

At the rear of the Rochari is the main road. Little Rochari is only a 2 minute walk along and then up a small incline. It's views, in my mind, are superior to Hotel Rochari because of its elevation. The public areas are of the same high standard. I didn't see inside any room but I think they all are sea facing.

The pool is very nice although about half the size of the main hotel. Then again, this is a much smaller unit but run by the same family.

One thing to know is that Little Rochari is separated from the main road by a car park. Not a busy one though. The day I walked up to the hotel there were only 3 or 4 cars in it. You cannot see the car park from even the public areas, as the hotel is again elevated up from it. There is no impact on the view but it's best to know about it.

From Manoulas and Apollonia you have no sunset view. You have to go just around the chapel in Agios Ioannis to Kapari (300m) to have the view. Agios Ioannis Resort, St. John Hotel and Grand on the other side of the bay have sunset view.

Hi hnberlin; Location is important. If you want to be closer to town, then the MYKONOS GRAND is not for you. But if you want sun all day long basking by a large pool, or being able to walk down to the sea, or a balcony looking at the sea, the Mykonos Grand is 'magnificent'. The Shirley valentine hotel mentioned above has a great sunset view - the hotel much renovated since the movie.
Very near to this hotel is the " Sunset Taverna " of the movie.
Much the same as seen in the film - the terrace a little bigger , but one can have the same view of the Sunset as Shirley. Many visitors come for the view and stay to eat something - food is good and prices fair for Mykonos.

The Mykonos Grand just a few meters further along the beach has many rooms with terrace and great views - sunset included.
The Hotel restaurant allows great sunset views while dining - excelent food and service.

You are absolutely right and I apologise for the wrong information. The Apollonia has the small hillside immediately to its right and it will indeed block the sun from mid to late afternoon.

I have watched the sunset from the Manoula's Beach, but at its restaurant down at the waterfront. The same hillside will block that sunset but perhaps only for some of the rooms that are furthest back and lower in the hotel complex itself.

Thanks everyone - going to book Rochari or Little Rochari. I'm a sucker for family owned establishments and they check out fine on TripAdvisor.

The same family (Kousathanas) owns the selfcatering Rochari Studios (with pool) in Agios Ioannis.
