Mykonos Hotel - town or beach?
My husband and I are planning to end a rather hectic trip to Europe (lots of family stuff) with a relaxing stay at a beach resort. After lots of research, we've decided on Greece - specifically a few days on Mykonos and a couple of days in Athens at the end. We'll arrive there the first week in September. We usually stay in smaller hotels in towns but the thought of having a hotel right on the beach to relax is very appealing. I've found one on Elia Beach called the Royal Myconian Resort & Thalasso Spa Center. They are offering a pretty good deal that makes it affordable for us. Has anyone stayed at or been to this hotel? May we have your opinion as to the quality of this beach relative to others on Mykonos and the wisdom of staying there rather than in the town?

Hi Christobel, I have never stayed on this particular beach but we always do stay outside of town at a beach instead of in town when we go to Mykonos. It's so easy to get into town that I prefer to be on the beach and relax and then go into town in the evening for shopping/eating, etc.
I've always stayed at Ornos or Platys Gialos but there are many nice beaches on Mykonos.

Hi Christobel
Elia is a beautiful beach and in a scenic area but it is remote compared to others on the island. Closeby is two other hotels and, if I recall correctly, three tavernas plus a tiny shop that sells very basic provisions. That's it.
Last year (and I doubt if things have changed) the last local bus from Elia to Mykonos town was 6:25pm. You'd have to rely on taxis and for that route the cost (which you'd need to build into your budget) will be about 12 euro, each way. The hotel is reasonably well known and I am sure it offers shuttle buses to town and back but those will be to a timetable, which may not suit. (I'd check with them that is the practice they operate, which is common to many of the larger remote hotels).
Elia is now very popular with the regular gay visitors to the island and the atmosphere is great i.e. very relaxed and friendly. On some island beaches such as Agrari, Paradise and Super Paradise you will see mixed-sex nude sunbathing but at Elia it is predominantly the lads who go for the all-over tan.
I agree with what wug suggests and I'll add Agios Ioannis beach to the list. These are all closer to town and much better served by local transport.
