I was being a little sarcastic, annhig, although I think that Dobby does have a good time by having a bad time if you know what I mean.

mlgb Jan 13th, 2013 09:21 AM

I think that blonde girl liked you, Dobby.

lol, Suki, I must be one of those Brits who can't "do" irony. i know what you mean and about his/her wallowing in misfortune - I had a grandad like that; he was never happy unless he was sad, and even then he was miserable.

StCirq Jan 13th, 2013 09:52 AM

Dobby seems to have a knack for creating his own misfortune, but then, his personality is so unpleasant it's no wonder.

nukesafe Jan 13th, 2013 10:30 AM

I don't get the girl who was "---- crossing and uncrossing her legs aggressively", business. Or perhaps I do, but don't want to go there.

<B>ChallengerGrey</B>: "<i>I enjoy the travels of DTT. We're experiencing the youth learning process. Me thinks we should be a bit kinder and gentler to DTT, and guide him? in the learning process</i>"

YOU be kinder to him - the rest of us tried that and it only got nasty retorts and personal attacks. (Take a look at DTT's other posts before lecturing us to be be kinder)

maybe I'm in a perverse mood -- but I'm relishing the 'issues'/problems/hiccups this know-it-all twerp is having.

And if he hopes to rent a place in London for what he's paying oop north - good luck.

Dobby: Since you hate everything about England and have weird neighbors, and have had fights w/ some of them, and think everyone is rude, and have been cheated over and over . . . WHY on Earth are you thinking of doing it all again next year? Or is that's your parents idea -- after all, they've been rid of you for months and maybe they've hit on something . . .

socaltraveler Jan 13th, 2013 12:44 PM

Oye, missed the part about coming back next year. Gap year extension perhaps. Nice to have time and income at such a young age. Seriously, anything positive you care to share? Poor Brits.

Heimdall Jan 13th, 2013 12:49 PM

I am amused by Dobby's posts, but what amuses me even more is that so many people who are offended by them come back for more. :-))

Dobby, don't feel too bad about the train ticket problem, because even George Osborne, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, got caught up in a similar situation recently: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-20008342

immediately made me think of Kenny Everett:

all in best possible taste of course.

Is your Grandma's name Clara?

janisj Jan 13th, 2013 01:59 PM

schuler: :D You think maybe . . . ;)

easytraveler Jan 14th, 2013 08:19 AM

bilboburgler: :)

I think part of the fun for Dobby is seeing some of us get all twisted in a knot over his posts.

Some of the "rest of us" have just read his posts and taken them for what they are - a rather unique "travelogue", true or false, and haven't been "personally attacked".

Heimdall: <i>I am amused by Dobby's posts, but what amuses me even more is that so many people who are offended by them come back for more.</i>

That's part of the fun of this thread. :)

BTW, Dobby, Happy New Year! Some of us do hope that you return to England and give us more of your travel experiences.

St. Cirq.>>Dobby seems to have a knack for creating his own misfortune, but then, his personality is so unpleasant it's no wonder.>>

Good observation!

nanabee Jan 14th, 2013 08:34 AM

This is an example (from Dobby himself) of how he sees the world:

ticket woman - has attitute and was rude to me
red haired lady on train - wanted her to shut up, she bothered me
blonde girl - agressive leg crosser and ticked me off
Euston town - trashy area I didn't like it
gym attendant - rude to me
all Londoners - have fake coughs and this bothers me

No wonder many people find Dobby annoying and irritating.
He can't find anything enjoyable in his life and apparently finds only things to complain about. Poor Dobby life is tough.

janisj Jan 14th, 2013 09:08 AM

et: Like/defend him if you want. But he really does sound like a miserable twerp.

nanabee Jan 14th, 2013 09:11 AM

How can you be so mean spirited janis, some people like miserable twerps. How unthoughtful of you. :)

janisj Jan 14th, 2013 09:55 AM

Yup >)

easytraveler Jan 14th, 2013 11:15 AM

The fun is also seeing negative reaction greet negative comment.

For Dobby's negatives, he's greeted with a opposing negative: "a miserable twerp" or someone has to go all the trouble of LISTING his negative comments.

Appears like Dobby hasn't cornered the market on negativity. :)

DobbyTheTurtle Jan 14th, 2013 03:00 PM

I tried buying tickets online weeks ago but the station in the village does not support this. I have to buy them same day at the booth. There are no agents at the station on weekends, so buying on the train was my only option. The woman did not care and was still a rude bat. Also I saw other people back in December buy tickets with their credit card and the ticket person did not give them a hard time. Next time I'm going to just deal with a male ticket agent.

nanabee- You don't know my life, you can't judge me. These people were rude to me. Keep quiet

socaltravler- When did I say these people hated Americans? Never. If I'm a ''snot'' then stop coming back.

challenger- I usually keep to myself when I'm out in public. If I'm with friends I'm not loud and don't bring much attention to myself. Which is weird when I'm being treated this way. I take showers and wear clean clothes. If someone coughs loudly at me and it's not on purpose they should say excuse me. I didn't say everyone was rude, there were a few people through out the day that were very nice.

Why is everyone attacking me just because I said a handful of people that day were mean to me? How is everything my fault??

Peter_S_Aus Jan 14th, 2013 03:43 PM

Dobby, glad to see you back here. Where is your next trip in England - looking forward to your comments.
