My Southwest Ireland Tour with possible vow renewal

My husband and I are leaving at the end of June for our 15th anniversary trip to Ireland! We have never been and are really excited. This is our Itinerary. Does this look "relaxing"? I don't want to be in the car the whole time.....(back seat driver)

Arrive Shannon 2 nights at THe Old Ground Hotel, tour area
2 nights dingle at the The Castlewood house
1 night Kenmare O Donnabhain's Bar & Guesthouse
2 nights Kinsale Desmond House
last night Kells Country House near Shannon

Any advise on places to renew our vows? Just the 2 of us and a priest?

I would give two nights to Kenmare and one to Kinsale. I know most fodorites love Kinsale, but in my opinion, one night was sufficient. (Arrived midday, explored--Charles Fort, town itself, harbor cruise--, left next morning.)

Sorry but I have to agree on 2nights in Kenmare and 1 in Kinsale drive Beara and the Sheeps Head on the way round.

I hate to tell people to drop and change where they are staying without getting a bit of info on why they have chosen a place. If you have an interest in Cork/Cobh/Blarney, then perhaps Kinsale is where you want to be.

If you don't really have any real reason or affinity for Kinsale, then I am thirding another night in Kenmare if it's your first trip as it perhaps gives you a few more options for activities. The Beara, as mentioned, as well as Killarney, Killarney National Park, Ring of Kerry, etc.

Good luck on finding a place to renew your vows!

It would be interesting to know if renewal of vows is something that is done in Ireland. We had people staying with us in France who wanted to do this, and the priest was completely mystified. Apparently it's unknown here.

I would suggest contacting the local Diocese for details on renewal of vows or possibly just a church blessing. Gougane is in the Diocese of Cork.
