My response to a thread was removed by editor....explain why!

There is a thread here in which a person is asking about adapters/convertors for her son's nebulizer when in Europe. I told her that it appeared that it was not dual voltage and that it probably would need a convertor and adapter but she should check with someone to be sure. I referred her to a website voltagevalet.com that I have used in the past. I have purchased items from them but I also have just called them in the past with questions about foreign current ie: what do do for laptop , and they have been very informative without me even making a purchase.
My question is what did I do wrong? Is it because they think I work for the company and am only trying to plug it. Well I don't and how is that any different than someone trying to be helpful and recommending a hotel or restaurant.
Does it just happen for no reason? I am going to send the person the website again just to see what happens. Thanks for anyone that can explain this to me.

smack, you must top the thread as I just did for you. The times of day maks a difference who is on line, so answer your own post by "Topping it by adding a message or ttt or topping wnen I don't know the poster personally

Click on your name and you will see all the posts that you posted to. Your thread post is alive and kicking!!! ((b))

janis Feb 20th, 2005 04:31 PM

As I understand it you are asking why something you posted to someone else's thread was deleted.

Are you sure you original response took? This site can be a little twitchy and sometimes you click post but everything you wrote just disappears.

I notice you did post a new response to that thread

janis Feb 20th, 2005 04:35 PM

Meant to add -- chigalechanta, the thread you topped is not the one smacknmo is talking about.

i've been lurking on this message board for a long time, just started posting messages recently and i've changed names a couple of times because i worry about privacy issues.
anyway, i've noticed the editors taking unilateral action a lot lately, ever since Danny Mangin left. Either they've decided to become more like housemothers at the frat house used to be, or they're just paying more attention, but it amazes me that a posting about a plug adapter might be deleted, and some of the really mean/racist/deranged threads go on for days.

cigalechanta Feb 20th, 2005 04:41 PM

Janis, there's another? Sorry, I thought I was being helpful

Smackmo,Is this the thread you're looking for? http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34570851

Nike Feb 20th, 2005 04:50 PM

i think what smacknmo is saying is that he/she posted a response much earlier today that is not on that thread

the 8:25pm posting i'm assuming is not the original one referred to

StCirq Feb 20th, 2005 04:51 PM

You thread hasn't been deleted, smacknmo: Just click on your own name in blue on this thread to find it, or check here:

That's not to say that Fodor's editors don't delete stuff from time to time, but very rarealy anything as uncontroversial as converters.

Nike Feb 20th, 2005 04:53 PM

that last link posted is for this very thread, not the previous one on adapters

cmt Feb 20th, 2005 05:07 PM

He is not saying that a thread that he started was deleted. He is saying that his specific post was deleted from a thread, and he is asking if we know why. I don't. But someone suggested that perhaps his message never actually posted. That happens sometimes.

smacknmo started this tread at 8:18 p.m., but his post on that other thread isn't until 8:25. So it looks like he posted this question and then went back to the first thread and posted his info again.

smacknmo Feb 21st, 2005 12:26 PM

Yes, I re-posted a response to the question. My first response did take because I checked but later it was gone. I always go back and read because maybe I can learn from what other people have contributed.

Hi Smack,

I did not see the original response with the voltagevalet.com information, I do see the second response that you put on the thread at 825pm.

I do thank you for the information, but can't offer any info on what happened to the original reply!!

Thanks again for the information, I'm going to check out that website right now!

smacknmo, have you tried emailing the editors directly to ask for an explanation? I think the address is [email protected].

smacknmo Feb 21st, 2005 04:22 PM

Thanks for the info. I am not upset about it, but i am curious how it happened. It makes me wonder what great information I could miss out on if peoples helpful advice just disappears. Was curious to know if it was a frequent occurrence or just a random act.
