Just wanted to thank you for posting the photos! I am planning our trip to Europe for next May and it is so hard to decide...too many wonderful places. Enjoyed your photos as I further ponder the possibilities!

The Chateau Guetsch is being renovated, I believe I read somewhere that the renovation is being funded with Russian Oligarch's backing - must be stressful to have money you have to dump into Swiss real estate before the next revolution takes it back . . gee, I wonder what that is like . . . I have this mortgage maybe they'd like to take a look at . . .
Anyway, there is a website -
http://www.chateau-guetsch.ch/projekt.html
that is in German and it says it will eventually have 40 rooms and suites and is expected to re-open sometime in 2013.
We are planning a trip there in a year, the rotating gondola ride is now on the must do list - thanks- do you have any lodging recommendations for Luzern? Midlevel - modest luxury for good value?

Hi Docdan! We actually weren't super impressed wtih Chateau Guetsch. It seemed a little too comercialized.
Also, we stayed at Hotel Des Alpes right in the heart of the Olde Town. This hotel was our least favorite out of all of our hotels that we stayed at in Europe. The one good thing about that hotel was the breakfast every morning overlooking the water. Switzerland is very expensive so we didn't have many choices in Luzern for under $300 per night. We did say that if we went back, we would not stay in the Olde Town but rather on the other side - where the lake is. (Location of Hotel Grand National) That side is so peaceful and we walked over there every night.
