I am glad that most of you have enjoyed your trip to Bavaria and I presume most of you are white. My friend and I(both of darker complexions) had experienced rude and indifferent treatments from the so called 'friendly' Bavarians when we were there two years ago. We were polite and even tried to speak German whenever we could. We couldn't understand why we got such unpleaseant treatments until we went home someone enlightened us that it was the colour of our skin. Maybe we were unlucky to have encountered the unfriendly locals. I know there are many educated, broad-minded and friendly German out there. But I think people should know that racism still exits in Germany and most part of this world.

This is my first knowledge of this wonderful way to learn of other travelers' experiences. I need your help regarding how to plan activities while in Munich.
Our family (son - 24 and daughter - 13) will be flying into Munich on August 7th. We are using Hilton Honor Points to stay at the Munich Hilton (are you familiar with this hotel and location in Munich ?
We will be in Munich 4 nights (one day will be a day trip to Salzburg to attend a performance at the festival and just to see some of the highlights of the city)
While in Munich, did you venture out on your own or did you have tour companies plan ahead for you? I have studied and read about what we want to do, but unsure what to do once we get there. Please advise me. As you can tell, this is our first trip to Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Also, we will be spending a couple of days in Vienna. I know Bob the Navigator can shed some light on this excursion.
I have also read with interest the many opinions regarding Murren and surrounding areas. We would like to spend two days in the Interlaken/Murren/Grin/Wen/areas but are more confused now than ever with so many different opinions. We will have 2 days in Switzerland and really just want to enjoy nature.
Any help appreciated.

Sandie

we had five days in Munich last summer - went to Dachau, Olympic Park, and Kehlstein Haus (good day trip). Loved the transportation system and the food was great! Anyone going there must see the hofBrau Haus and the glockenspeil (sp?) at least once. We also happened onto a Garten Gruppe parade (garden clubs) that had over 30 minutes of floats, bands, wagons, etc handing out flowers from their various gardens - couldn't hold them all and they were gorgeous. Stayed out in Bogenhausen and had a great time.
