Richard, I leave for Italy in a few days and my mouth is watering! I am so glad I checked out this thread. I have read that the Spanish Steps are so-so, but if you want to see them go at night. Eating right by them is perfect! THANK YOU FOR STARTING THIS!

What do you have to say about Tullio, Sabatini, and Sapori del Lord Byron? That is where we have reservations per our unofficial travel agent.

Oh, and not to go off thread or anything, but what is your opinion on Tivoli? I love gardens and such and the pictures look amazing. I heard from one that if you have a short amount of time, as I do, it is not worth it and the Farnese Gardens and Palatine Hill are better.

And to go back on thread, any good places to eat around there? LOL

Getting ready for our trip to Rome this summer, and wanted to see if anyone has some recent favorites.

Alphaj13, you go to Tivoli for the fountains, not necessarily for the gardens.

We went to Villa d'Este and LOVED the fountains. They were running when we went and the whole garden/fountain areas were beautiful, but that is mainly because of the lovely fountains. My husband, dad and I loved it. I would recommend it. We did go to Palatine Hill (5 years ago) and I don't remember it being anything like Villa d'Este (but my memory may be flawed). I haven't been to the Farnese Gardens so I have no comparison there.

You can check out their website at www.villadestetivoli.info/storiae.htm.

My favorite restaurants in Rome are Perilli and Luna Piena, both located in a back alley just off Via Marmottan in Testaccio. They were recommended by our hotel concierge. Yummy!
