OMG, how did I miss this? Sounds like you had a great trip, I'm definitely saving it for our next trip.
Our first, back in 2008 was great too, and yours brought back many wonderful memories. You made me go look at old pictures
Do they still have that Engadiner Nusstorte at Hotel Meisser?

@ xyz99 -- I'm so glad I brought back some wonderful memories! I did have a great trip -- which honestly is not surprising, given the combination of destinations and the extraordinary advice I received in advance from so many people here on Fodor's.
I'm afraid I can't give you an answer about the Engadiner Nusstorte at the Meisser -- it seems we each have to go back to find out!

Hi kja,
I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip. And I'm happy to were able to fit my city (Basel) into your itinerary and that you were able to visit some of my favorite places (Gstaad, Gruyeres, Lugano, Bern, Solothurn).
Come back soon!

@ Huggy -- I wouldn't have guessed that one! I like the idea that you found my report relevant.
@ WeisserTee -- oh yes, I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Switzerland, and I was very glad to visit delightful Basel and its wonderful museums and the cathedral with its lovely cloister and the university's botanical gardens and SO many charming squares.... And I feel very fortunate to have visited Bern and Solothurn and Lugano and Gruyeres and an incredible array of other magnificently memorable places! Please give a nod from me to the charming Gemsberg Brunnen next time you pass it!

Excellent trip report, and a very well-written opening post, kja ^^
Made me eager to visit more of Switzerlands.
I wish I could write like you. Or travel like you.
But I'll catch up soon.
Sorry for the other thread. I didn't mean to put you up as a target. I hope you forget it soon, and continue with your sampling of gems

what sundried said. I'm afraid that whenever I see her rant like that I exhibit a high degree of moral cowardice and ignore her, rather than wading in and attract her ire; the pity of it is that if you can get past the condescension and superciliousness, she can be a mine of valuable information.
kja - I don't know how I came to miss this thread first time round, but I'm glad I found it now. it was really interesting and will be a big help to those following literally or metaphorically in your footsteps.

Not a hiker myself, and always think of Switzerland as mountains, for which I am sadly lacking in appreciation. That is silly because I have been to Basel and liked it quite a lot, and really enjoyed Bavaria in Germany. Your descriptions of flowers and gardens, art and churches makes me want to go to Switzerland again and see those things, which I do appreciate. Thanks for taking so much time to share your experiences.
