Must-visit wineries in Italy [tuscany, sicily, puglia especially]
Hi Fodorites!
Knowing that we need to make reservations in advance for most wineries I'm looking for those that offer charm, history and of course yummy wines. We prefer reds but want to experience the local specialities.
Which do you like, and why?
This is my 1st post so if I did it wrong -oops ... thanks in advance!

You did fine with your first post.
I can't give you any direct help, but
Mitchell Beazley has written many books about wine and wine producing areas. I have his book on Alsace up on the shelf.
Amazon seems to have many of his books (just under $20).

I posted a similar question about Tuscany a while back and got advice to purchase this book. It has lots of useful information for wineries throughout the region, as well as maps, restaurants, and even some hotel suggestions.

Thx for book ideas. Here are a couple I'm planning on so far [haven't had much time yet to look into others]:
www.castellobanfi.com
www.castelloromitorio.com [phenomenal artist as well!]
Also, I've heard the Enoteca Nazionale in Siena, is "the most important wine cellar of Tuscany, with the best collection of Italian wines." Well!
And, I found this website that shows signs on the "wine trail". Figure I'll memorize these! http://www.terreditoscana.regione.to...index-ing.html

We arranged a tour of the Falesco winery near Montecchio (in Umbria), and we almost arranged a tour of Banfi in Tuscany. The Banfi tour would have been nice, but it's a very large winery (and costly tour as I recall, whereas our tour of Falesco was free - arranged by a friend).
Have you spent much time exploring Tuscan wineries by way of google? If not, you might try it.
