Must "see" restaurants in Rome
My wife and I will be traveling to Rome in July. We're not big "foodies" and we intend to eat breakfast in our flat, try to snack through lunch (carrying some and picking up some) and eat out for dinner.
I'm not much for pre-planning restaurants as I know schedules can frequently change. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to plan dinner? Also, anything we "must" try in Rome? The wife is a vegetarian, I hate vegetarian food :) We'd prefer to keep the cost as low as we can. |
These three were recommended to us by our hosts when we stayed in Rome for a week last September. We LOVED them and they were a good value.
Near the Forum: Taverna dei Fori Imperiali, on the street named for Madonna dei Monti They make their pasta fresh daily and it is amazing. Near the Spanish Steps: "34" Via Mario de Fiori. We just enjoyed sitting outside for a beer, but their food looked wonderful. and finally, the place we enjoyed so much we went twice: Casa Copelle http://www.casacoppelle.it/index.html Again, wonderful home made pastas and very excellent everything! The house wines are wonderful. The red is a Pinot nero and Sangiovese blend, and the white is "Est Est Est" There shouldn't be a problem for vegetarian choices at any of these places. |
Not a "Must see" but good is taverna dei quaranta which is near the forum and Coliseum: http://www.tavernadeiquaranta.com/en/
and for a splurge try Babette: http://www.babetteristorante.it/inde...d=100&lang=eng |
We thought the food at "34" was unimpressive. I wouldn't seek it out. We enjoyed Buca di Ripeta and really enjoyed their raw artichoke salad and other items that would fit a vegetarian diet.

We also really enjoyed the family run Taverna dei Fori Imperiali. http://www.latavernadeiforiimperiali.com/english.htm

Thanks for the replies so far. I'll map them out and print them off for my itinerary.

If you have an iPhone or Android phone, I suggest downloading Elizabeth Minchilli's app Eat Rome. Elizabeth is a American food writer/blogger who has lived in Rome most of her life.
