Must See Florence?
 

We only have 1-2 days for Florence, what are the must sees?

The David is a must-see. With the lighting, really incredible. Also, be sure to have gelato at Vivoli's--the best. Fiesole is a nice short trek & looks down on city.

Try the "riso" (rice) flavor at Vivoli. It sounds strange, but it is delicious. If you try it early in your trip, you will be back three times a day for a little more! The David is magnificent...I got there early (8:00 a.m.) for an 8:30 a.m. opening and beat the huge line and were able to see it with only five people in the room quietly, instead of five separate tour groups crowded around. Maybe try to get out of the city a little to see that view (Fiesole?) (A guy who lives there said the view at sunset from the Michaelangelo Piazza is amazing. I did not see it.) Florence is pretty viewed from a distance. Aqua al Due was a fun restaurant...lots of college kids, but fun. Do a search for restaurants...there's another fantastic place that has great bistecca! Have fun!

Florence is a beautiful city.I love it. <BR>It is a shame that you only have 1 or two days to see it. <BR>The piazza Del Duomo is lovely.The first time I saw Giotto's campinile,it made me cry.The bronze doors on the baptistry left me speechless. <BR>The Uffizi is packed with gorgeous art works.I wouldn't have missed it for anything. <BR>The churches in Florence are superb.My favourite was Santa Croce.San Lorenzo,and San Marco are lovely.You should not miss the Piazza del Santissima Annunzita.The architecture is outstanding. <BR>The Ponte Vecchio is a beautiful bridge,but it is spoilt with too many tourists.I would try to get up very early in the morning to see it without the hordes.Across the bridge if you turn right,there are some lovely medieval streets.The Brownings lived there, in the Casa Guidi.Elisabeth's biography is one of the most interesting I ever read.

Mary, before you go, find and read the old National Geographic magazine article on the 1960's flood in Florence. Then read "Sixteen Pleasures". Then go to Florence, on the short list of great cities.
