Must do/see in Rome
 

Hello!

Wither 5 days in Rome, what places and things do you specifically recommend? We will be on our honeymoon, and this will be the last portion of our trip.

Much too broad a question without any information about you and your likes and dislikes.

Any guide book will give you a list of top ten or twenty sights in Rome. I think I might print one of those and then highlight what appeals to me.

I don't think it would make much sense to give you a list of my favorite things in Rome because I've been there several times and some of my favorites are things I might not have done on a first or second trip.

And some of the things I haven't done yet might shock some others.

You need to figure out whether you will prioritize antiquities, religious sites, history, architecture, art, food, parks, gardens, etc. I didn't even put wine on the list because I don't drink but I know people that would have at least one wine bar on their must see list for Rome.

5 days is good. You can see a lot.

I would definitely head straight to Gammarelli to buy red or purple socks, or even a pair of red Prada pope shoes if I really wanted to stand out whilst in rehab.

Right across the street from Gammarelli there is a shop that sells waffle irons for making hosts. Pope shoes and host cookies could make you really popular in rehab.

Well, I loved Villa d'Este (in Tivoli about a 30 minute train ride). Gorgeous fountains everywhere.

If you do love wine, we loved the tasting we did with Vino Roma. We also enjoyed our food tour with Elizabeth Minchilli---great way to sample a lot of cheeses, cured meats, Roman pizza, etc...

I see that you will be on your honeymoon hence congratulations! To me I really found Rome to be a romantic place and there is so much to see. Of course you need to see all the iconic attractions.

Colosseum
arguably one of Rome's most iconic archaeological sites, is regarded as a wonder of the world

the Pantheon
It is one of the best-preserved of all Ancient Roman buildings. It has been in continuous use throughout its history, and since the 7th century, the Pantheon has been used as a church dedicated to "St. Mary and the Martyrs"

Roman Forum
It is a rectangular forum surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome.

You also need to check out Vatican city where there is the St Peter's Basilica, Vatican museum, sistine chapel etc.

Roman food is awesome and there are quite a few romantic restaurants where you can dine at for your honeymoon.Restaurant All'Oro seems like a popular choice.The chef often adds in playful tweaks to spice up traditional Roman fare, and is known to camouflage his dishes, masquerading them as another. One example would be the coda alla vaccinara , an oxtail stew that appears as a Ferrero Rocher chocolate. During the summer, be sure to reserve the small terrace located above the hotel's rooftop terrace where you will get panoramas of the city.
Restaurant Aroma offers an unobstructed view of the Colosseum. Their mint-flavoured roasted scallops is a great dish, with mains such as a tender veal fillet or a panzerotti.
Alessandro's Home restaurant overlooks the Vatican City.They serve the roman foods such as crostini romani,pasta, meat loaf or pork steak, crisp salads and desserts. They also offer barbecues.

Thank you for the suggestions. I definitely have noted the most popular historical attractions from guidebooks, but also just looking for personal recommendations.

For Vatican pay attention to clothes, they enforce their rules...

right in the centre of Rome, the entrance is on the Corso with a lovely tea-shop on the ground floor.

Second the Terme de Caracalla. Fabulous.

Can second Doria Pamphiliji....wonderful, I crowded and you have to get the audio guide!

I will also recommend Palazzo Valentini. The project the past look on to the ruins of a Roman villa. Very cool.

Borghese Gallery - beautiful sculptures. Make advance reservations online.

Resturants. Restaurants. Restaurants. I have never eaten so much delicious food for such a good price! Avoid street vendors and opt for trattoria s and small cafes.
