Musical Pub Crawl (Dublin), for kids?
Hi. My dh and I went on the Musical Pub Crawl in Dublin 10 plus years ago. We LOVED it. We are planning a trip to Ireland with our two daughters, age 5 and 8. I know they would love it- both love music (and the older one loves history). The only problem is that I can't remember if it would be inappropriate? Has anyone been recently? Thanks!!

Hi, this is a personal opinion question that parents must decide for themselves. Are you really asking if other small children participate in Pub Crawls? If so I did not see small children Pub Crawling in Dublin or in the Pubs at night in any other towns.

Again personal opinion I would think inappropriate to take 2 small children of that age on a pub crawl in Dublin. I know you will be sensible and not get drunk, but can you be sure that a place that is well known for stag and hen parties is the right environment. I would have no problem with other pubs outside of that main area. I would just find one in each spot you stay at and then ask the hotel or B&B your staying add for their opinion as to if it is suitable. They are more than likey to find some that are.

I should also have added I don't mean taking them out everynight and late but if a pub near you in a quiter spot has music on early in th evening that would be more appropriate.

Thanks for the input. When we went on the pub crawl (over 10 years ago), it was extremely tame. It visited private rooms in pretty calm uncrowded pubs. The others on the tour were all probably in their 40 s and 50s- it was all very calm. It ran from about 7 to 9 pm. This, though, was over ten years ago- I guess maybe things have changed.

We attended a couple of musical evenings in pubs in Kenmare and there were a number of families with kids there. Then again, the performance started around 6pm and was over by 9pm and parents were keeping a close eye/control on the kids. Anything later than that would be pushing it to the innapropiate side , though...

I think the name pub crawl is a bit misleading as most people go on the tour for the music rather than the drink. If you do decide to bring the children bear in mind it is illegal for them to be on the premises of any pub after 9pm, so you may have to leave before the end of the tour.
