Music suggestions

I'll be in Paris for a week and planning to do a lot of absorbing...people watching, sitting in parks, "renting" a cafe table for price of coffee...the best of Paris! Anyway, I want to load up my iPod with some Parisian tunes (okay, it's not really an iPod but a "ScanDisk"). I'd love to hear everyone's recommendations for both new and old French tunes (especially so that I can conjure up the feeling of Paris at anytime after returning to New Jersey!). Thanks!

Nothing says Paris like Piaf!

For the feeling of Paris?
Piaf or the soundtrack from "Un Homme et une Femme"

Anything by Charles Trenet, one of the most-loved French singers (and a fine composer, too). His "La Mer" and "Douce France" are especially well known.

You might also want to check out the Miles Davis soundtrack "Ascenseur pour lechafaud"

Carla Bruni--good background music for people watching. You can sample tracks from her cd at the iTunes music store or on Amazon.com.

If you are looking for today's artists and pop music: I got hooked on Girard de Palmas last year. Liked Amine this year.

Of course, if you like the epitome and classic, it is Edith Piaf.

cc, it is Gérald de Palmas, ;-) if you want to listen to a few songs :

Every time I hear La Vie En Rose, I picture me walking along the Seine, very early in the morning, by the glow of the street lamps. It just evokes that image to me. Oh yes, I'm also not walking the straightest due to some fine Bordeaux!

I agree about the La Vie en Rose. I am keeping my little crank music box I bought on my desk that plays this reminiscent song, so I can dream of Paris when I get stressed out at work.
