Music stores in IIaly
 

Does anyone know of any stores in Florence, Naples or Venice where they sell musical instruments?

I'll admit I was intrigued by your question, although I don't know any in those particular cities, because I do know several in other European cities as I tend to shop for music in Europe.

However, before you go further, I think nyone will need to know what kind of musical instrument you are seeking. Piano stores, for example, do not usually sell guitars or flutes, and stores that sell guitars/amps, etc., do not usually sell Bosendorfers.

recently came across a large music store in Florence which sold a wide range of instruments and music. I'll have to browse my maps to pinpoint the location. They had a quiet/demo room and very helpful staff.

Their primary focus was string instruments (guitars, violins, etc), but they also carried winds as well.

I was thinking of Guitars mostly.
Although pianos would be fine.

I could not find the exact street in Florence but it was in the vicinity of the Galleria dell'Accademia. It was on a street parallel to Via Ricasoli - one of the streets that runs perpendicular to the river.

If in Firenze, ask at the museum of musical instruments of the Galleria dell'Accademia. Someone there has to know.

mike, I can't help with stores, but if you're interested in musical instruments, be sure to check out the exhibit at the Accademia in Florence when you go there to see Michelangelo's David. Most people only bother to see the David at that museum, but there's more there to see. You'll enjoy the instruments.

There used to be a musical instrument shop in Campo SS. Filippo e Giacomo in Venice. That is in Castello, just behind the Basilica. If you are in Piazza San Marco, walk alongside the left side of the Basilica, follow the flow of traffic, and you will come to a little campo with a bunch of tourist stalls. You will see a pharmacy ahead, and the shop that sells instruments is next door.

I'm just thinking that there will be differences, especially in older instruments. Just as with food, in Italy, every region had its specialists and unique treatments. (Musical instruments are not my specialty!)

For Naples, just google: napoli strumenti musicali - you should be led somewhere useful. At Pagine Gialle, also search for listings in Napoli. Likewise, you can google: naples musical instruments and get listings in English (but you'll have to sift through Naples FL) Remember, searching online for Florence and Naples will not get you so many Italian sites, just english language ones.

As an amateur pianist, I have one word.
