Music lovers in Italy -- classical and jazz
Can anyone direct me to websites for classical concert info in Rome, Florence or Venice? And best places for jazz in the same cities? (We're also going Bellagio and Sorrento, if there's any good jazz venues there.)

Time Out guides are always very good for listings of live music venues by genre –
Time Out Venice, Rome and Naples & The Amalfi Coast should be available from any good bookshop – and are excellent guidebooks in their own right - particularly strong on restaurants/bars/clubs and shopping as well as the more usual sites, attractions and accommodation found in other guide books. www.timeout.com for a flavour. Cassandra,
When are you going to be in Italy? There is a HUGE jazz festival in Perugia/Umbria in July. Here's a link to the website: http://www.umbriajazz.com/canale.asp The Spoleto Festival (Festival of Two Worlds) is also scheduled for around the same time in July and focuses more on classical works. Website: http://www.spoletofestival.it/ktlib/...D=&LANG=GB There is also a classical music festival in Florence in May - link: http://www.maggiofiorentino.com/index_eng.shtml Hope this helps if you are going during those time periods. |
We got tickets for Tosca in Florence in May through liaisonsabaroad.com--they had other venues listed as well. Also, Fodor's current book "see it Italy" lists a jazz club in Venice called 900 Jazz Club (www.jazz900.com). I haven't been there, but was going to post and ask about it.
Last time we were there we also went to a classical concert by L'Orchestra di Venezia held in 18th century costume at San Giovanni Evangelista. It was a bit touristy, but fun. We got the tickets on the street, but their phone number is 522 81 25. |
Wow, thank you all SO much. We are there for the last two weeks of May, so perhaps we'll be able to catch some good music, even in a fairly hectic schedule.
You're all GREAT! |
