Museums in Berlin

Can anyone suggest a 3-day highlight tour of Berlin with a focus on museums? Budget is not an issue and stay can be extended if need be. Travelers are mid-30s with no prior visits to the region.

You could spend a half day or longer at the Pergamon Museum in East Berlin. It's one of the most spectacular Museums that I've ever visited, and one of my favorites. I suggest that you get the headphones and allow ample time to wander through every room. The Temple of Zeus and Athena is extensive and remarkable. It alone could occupy an hour or so of your visit.

Kelly - The Pergamon Museum is an absolute must! Actually you can spend a whole day visiting the museums on Museum Island. Also the new Jewish Museum is another absolute must. You might also want to consider the Egyptian Museum with the bust of Nefertiti. The Kultureforum also has a collection of excellent museums.

I love the Gemaeldegalerie in Berlin. World class! <BR>http://www.smpk.de/gg/e/s.html<BR><BR>Check out the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (Preussischer Kulturbesitz) website. They're all there.<BR>http://www.smpk.de/e/index.html

All of the above suggestions are very good - in addition, I suggest the Film Museum near Potsdamer Platz, the Bauhaus Archive and the Checkpoint Charlie Museum which we found more interesting and moving than we had expected. The Berlin Zoo is really fabulous as well. Enjoy - we really had a wonderful time exploring Berlin!

<BR><BR>To spend the least possible time travelling from place to place in Berlin you might group your visits. A map will show you that museums stand thus, from west to east.<BR><BR>Egyptian Museum in Dahlem<BR>Zoo<BR>Bauhaus Archive<BR>Gamaeldegalerie<BR>Film Museum, near Potsdamer Platz<BR>The Museum at Checkpoint Charlie<BR>Pergamon Museum<BR><BR><BR>In fact, I would drop the Zoo (good, but not unique), and probably the Bauhaus Archive and film Museum (small, and rather specialised interests), to give time for <BR>the House of the Wannsee Conference (where the Final Solution was adopted), <BR>Dahlem museums,<BR>the Charlottenburg museums for the Nefertiti bust and other fine work in the Egyptian Museum, Art Nouveau in the Brohanmuseum and the nineteenth century German Romantic paintings in the castle, <BR>The Gemaldegalerie<BR>the museum at Checkpoint Charlie (you can see this one evening, as it opens till late), <BR>and the museums on the Pergamon Island, especially the Bode Museum for the two complete temples.<BR><BR>Please write if I can help further.
