I used this commercial site to book my ticket in Nov99, the fee is only 7,000L http://www.romeguide.it/domus_aureaeng/domus_aurea.htm
Their e-mail "click-ons" didn't work then and I think they still don't, so just type-in their e-mail address on their page to book.
If you want (I recommend it:) an audio guide (3,000L) request it when you pick-up and pay for your tickets at the site, they will give you a receipt which you take to the window on the right for the audio guide. I mention it because 2 weeks ago (booked via phone in Rome) I saw quite a few people go to the window for the guide and then have to return to the queue/line to just to purchase the guide:(. You will need to leave a CC or picture ID as security. There is a 10min introduction to listen to before the tour starts and an unmarked w.c. behind the ticket booth. HTH Regards, Walter
