Museum Passes

Can you buy Paris museum passes and metro passes on-line? If so where?

YOu cannot buy regular city transportation tickets or passes online, but you can buy tourist metro passes, as well as museum passes, because neither is date-encoded. You can only do that from some kind of travel agency or for-profit company, though. I don't see any reason for doing that, you'll pay a markup for the agency's fee -- but I think there is a company named www.congierge.com that does this, as well as companies like Raileurope.

So, it's just as well to wait until I get to France to buy the passes? Train passes at the train stations? Museum passes at the. . . ?

As Christina said, there is no reason to buy passes before getting to Paris. They can all be bought at one time at the Metro booth--and you will pay up to 30% more.

The museum passes are also available at most metro stations, or you can buy it at any of the places covered by the pass. You would want to pick one with a short line if you do this, as one of the benefits of the pass it to bypass long lines.

By the way, don't buy the Paris Visite pass. Check the prices for Carte Orange and Mobilis passes at

<b>http://www.ratp.info/informer/tarif.php</b>

Mobilis is good for one day unlimited travel, and Carte Orange is for seven days beginning on Monday.
