Museum entrance requirements Rome,Florence
I have read in my RS guidebook, that for some admissions, you are required to leave
your passport at the desk, a sort of deposit
or guarantee of return of audio equip., etc.
Is this true?? If so, I am sure it is routine, but makes me a little nervous..
Anyone have any experiance with this?

In many museums we've been asked to leave a form of ID when checking out audiofuides. (Most recent trip at the Borghese Gallery in Rome and Accademia in Venice.) We leave our picture ID US driver's liscense rather than a passport. Has not been a problem.

I've left a driver's license (non-photo) against the return of an audio. I would think a copy of your passport would be good enough to leave. I would be very hesitant to leave the original passport.

I don't think a photocopy of a passport would do the trick. It is not ID that they are so much interested in as a guarantee or security of some value to insure that the audio guide is returned.
A driver's licence is good, obviously. You might try leaving a credit card.

If they accept our CA drivers license, that would be my preferred, so we can leave our passports safely in the hotel safe. If something were to happen to our CDL'S, it wouldn't cause us problems on our trip, and easily replaceable once we arrive home. Thanks for the tips
