Musee D'Orsay free admission?

My friend just spent a week in Paris and said their visit to the D'orsay was free because of the construction. Has anyone else gotten in free because of construction? How long will the construction go on? (Just questioning because this friend can get confused occasionally.)

The first Sunday of every month national museums in France are free of admission. I've never heard of any such rumor about construction and free admission. Unaware of any construction but haven't been in about 2 months. Perhaps you can check the museum website.

They didn't go the first Sunday. Hmmmmm.

The museum website does not say anything about free admission due to construction:

Was the staff on strike - a few years back the Louvre was free when some staff went on strike

haven't been for several years, but we purchased the "paris City Pass" or something like that .. we got discounted tickets to the musuems, and had a preferred entrance, so we by passed the lines. Don't know if that is still the case. We were there in the Summer of 2003

EU residents get free admission all the time if they are under age 26, and it is free to the disabled, also.

Orsay isn't a national museum anyway.

From the museum website:

"The Musée d'Orsay, like the Musée Hébert, is a national museum under the authority of the Ministry of Culture. These two museums are managed by the Musee d'Orsay public establishment."

Last Saturday May 15 was La Nuit Des Musees, where many museums all over Europe were open late. I heard reports that admission, at least in Parisian museums, was free. But I also heard reports saying otherwise. Was your friend here then? If not, then they must have wandered in without paying.

OK, mystery solved. She says they were there on the first Sunday in May but she thought they were being let in free because of the construction!!
