Murano affected by Acqua alta?

Does anyone know if Murano is on higher ground....or if the flooding occurs here too?

I just got back from Venice on Wednesday. I found aqua alta to only affect the city during the morning. Come afternoon the water had receded and there were no problems getting around. I didn't visit Murano in the morning but in the afternoon I didn't see any flooding or problems getting around. Buy a good pair of knee-high rubber boots and you'll fit in well!

Does anyone know how long the flooding is likely to last? We will be in Venice after Christmas and I really don't feel like packing extra gear (bulky thigh-high boots, waders etc), seeing as I will be the one who will end up carrying it!

The flooding is caused by the tides which are at a different time every day. The highest tides occur around full moon and new moon. Try www.comune.venezia.it/maree for times of tides. Murano is at a similar level to the city.

If I didn't KNOW better I'd swear that Venice is about to meet the same fate as the Titanic. Those "high tides" do not last ALL DAY and the area that is usually the most affected is around San Marco. A lot of the hotels will loan you a pair of boots to wear. But i guess there are some who need more re-assurance than others...sigh!

When I was there in Nov. 2002, we had to cancel our visit to Murano due to flooding. Be sure to inquire before trying to go over there.

We're leaving on Friday the 12th...arriving on the 13th. Spending the first two nights on Murano....I guess if it's bad we'll sit it out at the airport for a few hours til the tide subsides. We'll be in Venice for the following two weeks....so we'll leave Murano at low tide!!
Re: boots....most hotels have a few pair...and they are sold at the markets.
Thanks for the info..........
