I want to visit a glass factory in Murano. I'd want to avoid a highly staged, high pressure sales oriented tour. Advice?

Good luck. Don't take the 'free' waterboat ride to the island. You are dumped off at a factory. I found nothing of interest. The gentlemen tell you they are official representatives of Venice, yeah, right.

It was up to me to get back. Fortunately, there was a vaporetto stop nearby, and the trip back was pretty.

You can wander in, watch the glass blowing for a few minutes and leave. If someone tries to pressure you, don't respond, just walk away. It's so simple. They're usually only blowing small figures, not impressive large works but you can see the process; it's interesting if you've never seen it before.
