Munich Welcome Card

I'm getting down to the last few details for my trip, and I found another question. Has anyone ever used a Munich Welcome Card? I read that you can get a 3-Day Partner Card for outside the Innerraum area for 48 Euro. I think that would work well for us for the first few days because we don't plan on traveling outside of Munich until the 3rd day. I also know this card is good for discounts at some museums.

My questions about the Welcome Card are:

What time can you begin using it? I've looked but cannot find the answer anywhere. I had considered the Bavarian Pass, but you cannot start using that until 9 am, and some days we want to get going earlier than that. I found that the Card is good until 6 am the following day, so is it safe to assume the next day starts at 6 am?

Will this Card be good for transport from the airport to the Marienplatz or Hauptbahnhof? Or will we need to purchase a different ticket for that?

Thanks for all your help. I am getting really excited for this trip! I'm just ready to get out of St. Louis for a little while.

We used it once and as I recall it is good for all local public transport to include trams and I believe both the U-bahn and S-Bahn networks. Since ONE way to get to the airport from the center would be by using either Line S-1 or S-8 then the card should include that.

Be aware that some prefer the Lufthansa bus service out to the airport. I've also taken a taxi from the center which was several years ago and it cost at least 45 Euro to do so.

I am not sure how much public transport, etc., you have to actually use before the card becomes "economical" but it certain does save time and bother and you can get it at some hotels in Munich as well as the tourist office.

Thanks Intrepid. We plan on using only public transportation. At least for the bulk of the trip.

It looks like the welcome card is good for the entire MVV network. You'll need to write the date and time on your card before you use it.

I think everything you want to know about the Munich transit system is at www.mvv-muenchen.de/en/index.html. They have description of the various ticket types, prices, and system maps.

The day tickets are valid from the time you buy them (presumably it could be just after midnight) untiil 6 AM the following day. If you buy the all zones ticket (€9,60 single, €17 partner - up to 5 people) at the airport, it is good into town and all over the entire system that day. It is good on S/U-bahns, trams, and buses.

However, for most sightseeing in town, the Inner Zone day ticket for €4,80/€8,50 is a better deal. Almost everything in Munich, except Dachau is in the inner zone.
