Munich train station hotel
 

Hello everyone, brand new member here. Thank you so much for all of your information, which has been so helpful to us in the past. My family and I (three kids 14,12,9) are traveling to Munich in the spring. Can I get some advice about hotels near the main train station for families? Also, my wife is concerned about the safety of the area around the main train station in Munich. I have been to Munich many times, I work for Siemens, but don't recall the train station area being very bad. We arrive from Paris about 9:30pm and want a hotel close to the train station, as we plan to rent a car and drive to the castle district and then explore Munich later in the week.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I have been staying at the same hotel since 1983. I often travel alone and I have never had a problem around the station. The rooms are modern with ethernet cables provided. Hotelissimo Haberstock located just across the street from the train station. email:[email protected] You can google the name and a website will be given from Booking.com

There is no need to worry about safety anywhere in Munich.

We stayed at the Hotel Reinbold. It was a very basic hotel, but within walking distance to the train station...1 block over, I believe.

The breakfast buffet was nice. The front desk helped us with a train ride to the Nueschwanstein Castle, they mailed our post cards, etc.

I would probably stay there again as we do not spend much time in the hotel. If you are looking for plush, this hotel is not for you.

We had no problems with safety or feeling safe around the train station. We arrived after dark on a few occasions and felt very comfortable.

I stayed at the Marriott Courtyard, within 5 minutes of the train station. The train station area has a few seedy shops, but I did not see any indication it is unsafe.

Hi Fab, I also stayed in the Courtyard near the train station. I think I paid $55 plus fees on Priceline so you might look into getting two rooms. It was great. They didn't charge me for parking (I wonder if it was a mistake?) I didn't feel the least bit at risk in this part of Munich.

With children it is surely not so good to stay at the main thoroughfares around the main station - the traffic is quite bad. I would look for a place in a side street, away from all traffic noise.

However, why do you restrict yourself to the main station area?

You may wish to check out Hotel Eden Wolff, which is on Arnulfstrasse right across from the Hbf. I believe that the Lufthansa bus from MUC stops directly in front of the hotel. We reserved there on our recent trip but then decided not to stay in Munich. Good Luck. Gradyghost

To answer a few of the questions.

We plan to take the TGV from Paris to Munich in the afternoon, arriving about 9:40pm in Munich.

We then plan to get up the next morning and rent a car and spend the next few days in Rothenburg and Reutte...returning to munich on Saturday and catching the night train to Venice....

So that is the plan for Bavaria...any other ideas are welcome.

Hotel Uhland is very close to the train station - very comfortable and charming.

Drei Lowen is about 1 or 2 blocks from the station and good for the price.

As in many European cities, quite a few immigrants hang out near the train stations. You may find them seedy looking, but I don't consider them dangerous.

I'm a single female, I stayed in a hotel right across the street from the train station and I never felt unsafe.
I can't remember the name of the hotel, it was NW something, but noise wasn't an issue and I'm a really light sleeper. I liked being in that area. It was convenient to day tours and I liked being that close to transportation.

I just returned from Munich and stayed at the Meridien hotel which was pleasant and right across the street from the station. Sofitel hotel is just next to the station and both are about a 2 minute walk from the station. The Marriott courtyard is less than a 10 minute walk from the train station. Area around the train station is fine. I think you will need two rooms. Took TGV from Munich to Paris last week which took about 6 hours.

Le Meridien and Sofitel are the best hotels to stay at if you must stay around the train station. That said the blocks south of the train station have all the seedy sex shops which was a concern to us when we walk with our kids. We simply avoid walking through the area south of the train station. While we never worry about safety, the train station area is very far from being the best area of Munich to stay in and that is putting it mildly.
